More about the role

This is an exciting job opportunity (fixed-term contract) for you to light the way as a Design Engineer 3D Printing in France with Signify.

  • Specialized in thermal and mechanical engineering for luminaire development, including 3D printed components, mechanical interfaces, material selection, assembly concepts, and product reliability. Develops and implements solutions that meet performance, manufacturability, quality, and reliability requirements from concept through product release.

  • Responsible for the design, development, testing, documentation, and release support of systems, subsystems, or components as part of an overall product architecture. Ensures engineering solutions are practical, efficient, robust, and aligned with project goals, product family requirements, and applicable industry standards.

  • Applies relevant technology, research findings, material insights, and design rules into engineering solutions, with attention to printability, repeatability, mechanical robustness, thermal behavior, and design-for-manufacturing.

  • Works with an outside-in view to understand customer, design, market, and product family needs, including requirements related to aesthetics, usability, reliability, sustainability, and competitive positioning. Collaborates with Product Management, Design, Quality, Manufacturing, Research, and global competence communities to stay aligned with latest insights and technical developments.

  • Designs, realizes, tests, and validates components or subsystems based on design requirements, and translates these into specifications, development documentation, test evidence, and project deliverables.

  • Supports the development of coherent product family solutions, ensuring that mechanical concepts, materials, interfaces, and design choices can be consistently applied across multiple luminaire applications where relevant.

  • Contributes to engineering decision-making during concept development, feasibility assessment, prototyping, testing, and industrialization, ensuring that selected solutions balance innovation, technical feasibility, cost, quality, and time-to-market.

  • Drives and supports IP creation and protection, including identification of potential patents, trade secrets, copyrights, and reusable design know-how.

  • Writes, updates, and maintains development reports, design documentation, specifications, test reports, risk assessments, and project deliverables.

  • Depending on grade, contributes to technology road mapping, platform thinking, design rules, and reusable engineering building blocks for future luminaire and product family developments.

  • Depending on grade, provides coaching and mentoring within the team to support effective use of available knowledge and skills, including mechanical design, thermal considerations, 3D printing constraints, product family thinking, and cross-functional collaboration.

More about you

While we value and appreciate all applicants, we believe that the following experience and skills will be needed to shine brightly in this job opening:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, Product Engineering, Industrial Design Engineering, or a closely related field, providing strong foundational knowledge in mechanics, thermodynamics, materials, manufacturing processes, and product development.

  • Experience in mechanical and/or thermal design and analysis within an R&D or product development environment, preferably involving luminaires, consumer products, connected products, or 3D printed components.

  • Experience with the design and development of luminaires, including mechanical construction, thermal behavior, optical/mechanical integration, material selection, assembly concepts, reliability, and design-for-manufacturing considerations.

  • Experience with Signify’s 3D continuous flow printing technology, including understanding of printability, material behavior, process constraints, design rules, repeatability, and manufacturability of 3D printed luminaire components.

  • Experience translating design intent and product requirements into feasible engineering solutions, including component design, material selection, assembly concepts, tolerance considerations, testing, and documentation.

  • Experience working in a cross-functional development environment, collaborating with stakeholders such as Product Management, Design, Quality, Manufacturing, Research, suppliers, and project teams.

  • Experience with prototyping, verification, validation, and documentation of mechanical or thermal solutions, including development reports, test plans, risk assessments, design reviews, and release deliverables.

  • Affinity with 3D printing, connected lighting, luminaire product family development, CMF/design consistency, and design-for-manufacturing is strongly preferred.

  • Knowledge of relevant engineering standards, quality expectations, and product reliability principles is preferred.

  • Professional Engineer certification or equivalent technical certification in Mechanical or Thermal Engineering is considered a plus, where relevant to the role and region.
