Description
Dental Financial Counselor
Fargo-Moorhead Metro | Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Help Patients Say Yes to the Care They Need
Family HealthCare is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) and mission-driven nonprofit dedicated to providing quality, compassionate care to everyone in the Fargo-Moorhead community, regardless of their ability to pay. We believe healthcare is a right, not a privilege, and everything we do is built around that belief.
We're looking for a Dental Financial Counselor to sit at the intersection of dental care and real life, helping patients understand their treatment plan, feel confident about their options, and build a payment path that actually works for them. For many of our patients, you'll be the difference between putting off care and getting it done.
This role is a great fit if you're detail-oriented, good with people under stress, and want work that directly removes barriers to healthcare. No specific license or certification required. We're looking for someone dependable, empathetic, and sharp with numbers and paperwork.
What You'll Do
- Meet with patients to explain treatment plans, answer questions, and address financial concerns in clear, everyday language
- Research insurance benefits and prepare cost estimates before financial conversations happen
- Arrange and document patient payment portions, financing agreements, and payment schedules
- Coordinate scheduling for exams, treatment, and follow-up hygiene appointments
- Recalculate financial arrangements as treatment plans change
- Follow up with patients on outstanding treatment plans and pending pre-authorizations
- Work alongside our Enrollment team, with the opportunity to grow into enrolling patients independently
- Keep thorough, accurate records of every financial discussion and agreement
What You'll Bring
- Strong written and verbal communication skills: clear grammar, patience, and a knack for explaining complex information simply
- Comfort with Microsoft Excel, Word, and practice management software
- A calm, professional presence, even in stressful or sensitive conversations
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple patient files independently
- A collaborative mindset: you'll work closely with providers, front office staff, and patients alike
- Cultural sensitivity and a genuine passion for Family HealthCare's mission to serve underserved communities
- Insurance eligibility experience, healthcare background, or familiarity with NDMA/MNMA applications is a plus, but not required to apply
Why Family HealthCare
- Purpose you can feel. Every conversation you have helps a patient get care they might otherwise skip.
- Room to grow. Build real expertise in healthcare finance, insurance, and patient enrollment: skills that open doors across the industry.
- A close-knit, mission-first team in the Fargo-Moorhead community, doing work that's visible and valued.
- Meaningful benefits that support your well-being while you do work that matters.
