The Campus Police provide the full spectrum of Law Enforcement services to Red Rocks Community College students, staff, faculty and visitors.

Note: This position generally works Monday through Friday, with shift times scheduled between 6:00 a.m. and 11:00 p.m. Weekend shifts may be required based on staffing needs, training requirements, or special events. Schedule flexibility is required to meet the needs of the department. This position is considered essential personnel which requires being on duty to perform emergency services of the agency without delay and/or interruption and rotates shifts. This position is required to work at the Lakewood and Arvada campuses as needed. You must be willing to accept working at various locations and working varying hours as needed.

Your application must provide a detailed description of your relevant work experience in relation to the following duties. This position works with a broad range of people campus-wide to ensure situations are appropriately addressed and safety expectations are achieved.
Criminal Law Enforcement and Emergency ResponseResponds to all calls for service, both criminal and non-criminal. Conducts field interviews of suspicious persons and investigates alleged criminal activity. Collects and preserves evidence, interviews victims, witnesses, and suspects, and arrests or detains individuals as appropriate while providing proper legal advisements. Enforces traffic laws, investigates motor vehicle accidents, and renders aid as needed. Patrols and monitors campus to deter, prevent, and detect criminal activity and identify individuals in need of law enforcement services. Responds safely and effectively to criminal and non-criminal emergencies.
Documentation, Reporting, and Evidence Management
Prepares comprehensive written and verbal reports documenting all shift activities. Completes reports regarding criminal activity for presentation to the District Attorney for prosecution and prepares documentation for campus administrative actions as directed by department leadership. Properly collects, preserves, logs, and stores evidence in accordance with established procedures. Testifies in court proceedings as required.
Special Events, Security Operations, and Facility Management
Provides crowd and traffic control at public events including July 4th celebrations, political rallies, demonstrations, concerts, sporting events, and graduation ceremonies. Coordinates with appropriate law enforcement agencies regarding dignitary protection and security operations. Conducts law enforcement escorts for campus monetary operations. Assists the public as needed and secures campus facilities by locking and unlocking buildings as required.
Training, Professional Development, and Community Engagement
Participates in in-service and specialized law enforcement training and continuing education. Maintains proficiency in firearms, arrest control, defensive tactics, and all P.O.S.T.-required training. Stays current on law enforcement legal issues and recent local, state, and federal court decisions affecting law enforcement operations. Engages in community relations through verbal and written communications. Delivers crime prevention and safety presentations as assigned.
Other Duties
Performs other duties as assigned, including attending department, division, and college meetings; participating on college committees; completing assigned trainings; and other responsibilities as directed by department, division, or college leadership.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
Possession of a current, valid Colorado Peace Officer Standards Training (P.O.S.T.) certification and a minimum of one (1) year of experience in law enforcement, which can include public safety, security, military service, corrections, or another occupational field with duties directly related to the position. You must submit a copy of your POST certificate with your application in order to be considered. Do not use "see resume" statements on application; your application must be completed in detail and clearly document your relevant work experience. (Part time experience will be pro-rated).
Appropriate education will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis but will not substitute for the POST certification.
Preferred Requirements: Prior professional law-enforcement experience, particularly in a campus, community-oriented, or similar environments. An associate degree or higher in criminal justice, criminology, or a closely related field from an accredited institution. Strong oral and written communication skills, including experience preparing clear, accurate reports and testifying in court. Demonstrated ability to work effectively and respectfully with diverse populations and to apply sound judgment when interpreting laws, regulations, policies, and procedures. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and general computer proficiency. Training or experience in interviewing and interrogation techniques, hazardous-material safety practices, computer-aided dispatch (CAD), records management systems such as EFORCE, or other law-enforcement technology and software.

- Alcohol/drug related traffic convictions in the last three years and repeat alcohol/drug convictions after the age of 18 within the last ten years
After a conditional offer of employment is made, prospective employee will be required to submit to and satisfactorily pass a polygraph examination, physical and psychological examinations by a doctor or health care facility which is selected or approved by Red Rocks Community College Campus Police Department in order to determine whether or not a prospective employee can perform the essential functions of the job.
Felony convictions or conviction of crimes of moral turpitude or convictions of misdemeanors related to job duties may disqualify you from consideration for this position. Should your background check reveal any charges and convictions, it is your responsibility to provide RRCC Office of Human Resources with an official disposition of the charges.
This position requires the individual to exert or lift in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. It also requires seizing, holding, controlling, and/or otherwise subduing violent, assaultive, or physically threatening persons to defend oneself or prevent injury. Body strength and agility of all four limbs is necessary.
