Job Description
The PL Operations Modernization Intern will support initiatives focused on enhancing business operations through the adoption of tools, automation, AI, and process improvement. This role provides the opportunity to contribute to a variety of modernization efforts that improve efficiency, strengthen operational capabilities, and enhance the employee experience.
The intern will partner with stakeholders across Operations, Technology, and Analytics to support projects, reporting, change enablement, and continuous improvement activities. Specific assignments will be based on business priorities, as well as the intern's skills, interests, and development goals.
Key Responsibilities
A day in the life of a PL Operations Modernization Intern might include:
Support project planning, coordination, and tracking activities, including management of risks, action items, issues, timelines, and dependencies.
Assist with the analysis of operational data to identify trends, measure outcomes, and provide actionable insights and recommendations.
Develop, maintain, and distribute reports, dashboards, and performance metrics that support decision-making and modernization initiatives.
Support the adoption of new tools, automation solutions, and business processes through communication, change readiness activities, and stakeholder engagement.
Gather and synthesize feedback from stakeholders to help improve user experience and drive successful implementation efforts.
Prepare meeting agendas, presentation materials, executive summaries, project updates, and recommendations for leadership and project teams.
Assist with enhancements and maintenance of business tools and platforms, including SharePoint, Power Apps, Power Automate, and Power BI.
Create and maintain process documentation, knowledge articles, job aids, training materials, and other enablement resources.
Collaborate with cross-functional partners to identify opportunities for process optimization and operational efficiency.
Support continuous improvement efforts by researching best practices and recommending innovative approaches to business challenges.
Participate in modernization initiatives involving automation, digital transformation, and artificial intelligence capabilities.

About You
A successful PL Operations Modernization Intern at Nationwide has:
Education
Pursuing a bachelor's degree in Business, Business Analytics, Information Systems, Management, Engineering, Organizational Leadership, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or a related field.
Completion of sophomore or junior year preferred.
Involvement in student organizations, leadership activities, internships, or relevant work experience preferred.
Skills/Competencies
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Self-starter with a strong desire to learn and take ownership of work.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
Interest in project management, business transformation, process improvement, automation, and AI.

Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate, SharePoint, or similar platforms.

This internship is ideal for students interested in business operations, digital transformation, project management, analytics, automation, or emerging technologies who are eager to gain practical experience supporting enterprise modernization initiatives.
Nationwide does not participate in the STEM OPT Extension program. At its sole discretion, Nationwide determines whether to offer sponsorship for qualifying positions based on business need and budget. However, sponsorship is not usually available for entry-level roles.
Nationwide pays on a geographic-specific salary structure and placement within the actual starting salary range for this position will be determined by a number of factors including the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; the scope, complexity and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; and other conditions of employment.The national hourly pay range for Nationwide Internships is: $23 - $50
