A Water Systems Specialist position is available with the City of Fort Worth Water Department/ Plant Operations Division. The selected candidate will supervise, coordinate, and review the work of subordinate employees responsible for operating the Village Creek Water Reclamation Facility and or the Dryer Facility and other related facilities; review daily reports related to work performed by employees; inspect and ensure proper operation of all wastewater and biosolids treatment plant processes and related facilities; to identify maintenance needs and ensure that operational, maintenance, and safety procedures are followed at all times; initiate corrective actions to ensure process efficiency; inspect work in progress; provide advice and assistance to technical staff as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate's degree from an accredited college in engineering
- Four (4) years of responsible experience in wastewater treatment including:
- One year of lead supervisory experience
- Possession of a Class โBโ Water Treatment license
- State of Texas Driver License
- Must pass Drug Screen, and Physical screening
Preferred Qualifications:
- Wastewater plant or field environment
- Experience at a large wastewater treatment plant greater than 10 MG
- Experience with Biosolids processing
- PFAS regulatory experience
- Possession of a TCEQ Class โAโ Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator License is preferred
- Wastewater plant or field environment
The Water Systems Specialist job responsibilities include:
- Supervise and coordinate assigned activities and operations related to Wastewater and Biosolids Treatment processes
- Participates in the requisition of materials and supplies; and compiles specifications for equipment and contracts
- Provide leadership and guidance to key personnel as part of professional development through administration of an effective training program
- Instigates corrective actions such as changing chemical feed rates, airflow rates, return sludge rates, chlorination rates, or filtration rates to ensure efficient water quality. Inspects work in progress. Provides advice and assistance to technical staff as necessary
- Record and maintain detailed information on the operation of the Village Creek Water Reclamation Facility or Biosolid Facility and compare the results with goals, regulatory and environmental standards
- Responds to emergency situations including major equipment malfunction or failure, chemical release, employee injuries, etc

Incumbents may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, odors, dusts, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, intense noises, gases, vibrations, chemicals, oils and workspace restrictions.
Medium work โ Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly having to move objects.
