Industrial Engineer Manager | MMX Labor Standards Focus
Job Summary
Designs, analyzes, develops, and implements innovative and strategic solutions that improve work method efficiency and workforce management across TJ Maxx and Marshalls stores. Drives operational improvements through store layout optimization, technology enhancements, material handling recommendations, work method and motion economy improvements, labor standards development and maintenance, and staffing and scheduling analysis. Evaluates current processes and recommends solutions that optimize store operations, productivity, and labor effectiveness, with a primary focus on Labor Standards.
Major Areas of Responsibility
Store Operations & Process Improvement
- Design, analyze, develop, and implement solutions that improve operations in both selling and non-selling store environments, including:
- Backroom operations
- Front-end operations
- Dressing rooms
- Restrooms
- Associate lounges
- Custodial areas
- Office and support spaces
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives aimed at increasing operational efficiency and effectiveness.
- Evaluate and recommend safety and material handling improvements.
- Develop and document best methods and motion economy practices to improve productivity and consistency.
- Support ROI analyses and business cases for operational initiatives.
- Participate in and lead special projects that support strategic business objectives.
- Influence senior leaders and stakeholders at multiple levels.
Labor Standards Management
- Develop, maintain, and enhance labor standards to ensure accurate workload measurement and workforce planning.
- Conduct time studies, process analyses, and work measurement evaluations to establish and validate labor standards.
- Analyze operational data and labor metrics to identify productivity improvement opportunities.
- Partner with business stakeholders to ensure labor standards are effectively applied across store operations.
- Monitor, update, and validate labor standards based on evolving business requirements, operational changes, and process improvements.
- Support staffing, scheduling, and workforce management initiatives through data-driven labor standards analysis.
- Analyze, prioritize, and sequence engineering initiatives that support labor productivity and operational effectiveness.
Strategic Planning & Innovation
- Balance standardization and innovation to drive continuous improvement across MMX store engineering priorities.
- Stay informed of industry trends, emerging technologies, and operational best practices and translate insights into actionable strategies.
- Monitor the competitive landscape and leverage external resources, networks, and industry benchmarks to identify opportunities for long-term growth and improvement.
- Develop solutions that consider cross-functional business impacts and align with broader organizational objectives.
Collaboration & Problem Solving
- Collaborate with a broad range of stakeholders to gather insights, challenge assumptions, and develop practical, scalable solutions.
- Identify root causes within complex operational challenges and develop data-driven recommendations.
- Evaluate both immediate and long-term implications when making business and operational decisions.
- Develop, review, and recommend engineering and business solutions that:
- Minimize cycle times
- Eliminate redundant activities
- Improve labor productivity
- Optimize workflow execution
- Determine the most effective location and timing for floor-ready activities
Who We Are Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering
- 3+ years of experience in Industrial Engineering, Finance, Business Operations, Retail Operations, or a related discipline.
- Prior experience leading teams in a dynamic, fast paced environment.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence senior leaders and stakeholders at multiple levels.
- Sound understanding of business and operational processes and procedures.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel.
- Retail store or distribution center experience.
- Six Sigma, Lean, or other continuous improvement certification.
- Experience with labor standards development, work measurement, time studies, workforce planning, or productivity analysis.
- Ability to travel up to 40%.

Actual starting pay is determined by a number of factors, including relevant skills, qualifications, and experience. This position is eligible for an annual incentive as well as long-term incentives.
