What you will do
As a Fire Project Specialist, you will act as the on-site project leader for assigned customers and projects. You will manage project delivery activities, support communication across all stakeholders, and ensure work is completed in compliance with contract requirements, applicable codes, and Johnson Controls standards.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, execute, and complete assigned projects, including installation coordination and project closeout.
Manage overall project financial results, including costs, billings, collections, and gross margin performance.
Pursue change orders and evaluate the impact of scope changes, field directives, and scheduling revisions.
Coordinate communication with customer representatives across Quality Assurance, Engineering, Validation, and related departments.
Support the selection, ordering, delivery scheduling, and procurement of project materials.
Request and evaluate bids from vendors, suppliers, mechanical subcontractors, and electrical subcontractors.
Oversee subcontractor payment and billing processes as required.
Coordinate jobsite execution and ensure installation aligns with Johnson Controls literature and project requirements.
Support controller loading, device verification, commissioning, troubleshooting, and system functional validation when required.
Prepare and maintain accurate as-built documentation, commissioning records, manuals, and warranty documentation.
Review validation documents and project deliverables for technical accuracy and consistency prior to customer submittal.
Communicate project status, risks, and forecast updates to the Project Lead and management.
Develop and maintain strong long-term relationships with contractors, clients, consultants, and subcontractors.
Ensure all work is performed safely and in compliance with local, Provincial, and Federal legal requirements.

Own the project outcome with accountability, safety, and integrity while keeping execution aligned to the contract, budget, and customer expectations.
Stay close to the work by understanding site conditions, removing barriers quickly, and keeping communication clear between customers, trades, and internal teams.
Use practical problem-solving and candor to identify risks early, address scope changes, and improve project performance every day.
Win as one team by collaborating with subcontractors, technicians, designers, and customer representatives to keep the project moving forward.
Use Johnson Controls standard tools and processes whenever possible to support consistency and efficiency.
Interpret applicable regulatory requirements and ensure deliverables meet customer and code expectations.
Track progress carefully so delegated tasks are completed accurately, on time, within budget, and within scope.
Support warranty execution and handoff activities with complete documentation and professional follow-through.
Communicate technical and business updates in a way that is clear for both technical and non-technical audiences.
What we look for
Minimum High School diploma or equivalent.
Minimum two (2) years of experience in construction, low voltage, mechanical, electronics, or another related industry.
Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to communicate technical material to a non-technical audience.
Strong personal computer skills in MS Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and MS Project.
Working knowledge of Adobe Writer, Visio, and the MS Windows environment.
Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining attention to detail, customer focus, and follow-through.
Commitment to safe work practices and adherence to project and site requirements.
Nice to Have
Experience with Mechanical Retrofits, HVAC controls, BAS Installation, Fire Installation, Security Systems Installation, or Master System Integration Installation.
Two-year business or construction management degree, or applicable on-the-job experience.
Ability to interpret and manage fire code requirements (NFPA) for Fire-related roles.
Experience reviewing validation documents, commissioning records, or as-built documentation.
HIRING SALARY RANGE - $67,900 - $93,400 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.) This role offers a competitive Bonus plan that will take into account individual, group, and corporate performance. This position includes a competitive benefits package.
