The Role:
Our site in Colorado Springs, CO is seeking a Continuous Improvement Co-Op to join our team for the Spring 2027 season. This assignment is intended to be 6 months in duration.
The Continuous Improvement Co-op will support operational excellence initiatives across manufacturing and business processes. This role provides hands-on experience in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma methodologies, waste reduction, safety improvements, and data-driven problem solving. The co-op will partner with operations, engineering, quality, and production teams to identify improvement opportunities, implement sustainable solutions, and help drive measurable results in productivity, quality, safety, and cost reduction.
What You’ll Do:
Support and facilitate Lean Manufacturing initiatives throughout the facility.
Participate in Kaizen events focused on improving safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
Conduct Gemba walks to observe processes, identify opportunities, and engage team members in problem-solving activities.
Assist with implementation and sustainment of 5S workplace organization programs.
Identify and help eliminate the eight wastes of Lean (Transportation, Inventory, Motion, Waiting, Overproduction, Overprocessing, Defects, and Underutilized Talent).
Support Kanban and pull-system implementation to improve material flow and inventory management.
Apply Six Sigma tools and methodologies to reduce process variation and improve capability.
Assist with root cause analysis using tools such as 5 Why, Fishbone Diagrams, Pareto Analysis, and Process Mapping.
Support Total Daily Management (TDM) activities, including metric tracking, visual management, and performance board updates.
Analyze manufacturing performance data and identify trends affecting productivity and quality.
What We Seek:
Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in: Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, Supply Chain, or related field.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office Suite.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Desired Major(s) & Graduation Year:
Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, Supply Chain, or related field.
Currently enrolled in an undergraduate (BS/BA) or graduate (MS) program graduating in December 2026 or later
Eligibility:
Must be a currently enrolled student
Available to work 40 hours a week, M-F (8a-5p) beginning in January through June
Must be familiar with the university’s requirements to participate in a co-op program

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Stand, walk, sit and occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.

Compensation: $20-$30/hour range with actual pay dependent on candidate overall skills for the role
