THE OPPORTUNITY

We are recruiting a Global Head of Health Economics & Reimbursement (HE&R) to serve as the functional leader for our Heart Failure business. This leader will be a member of both the functional and business unit executive leadership teams and is accountable for developing and executing global health economics, reimbursement and market access strategies across the full product lifecycle.

The Global Head of HE&R will lead a global strategy through a network of direct, indirect, regional and cross-functional resources. The role will partner extensively with business, clinical, medical affairs, regulatory, commercial, finance and regional leadership teams to enable patient access, optimize business performance and support sustainable portfolio growth globally.

This role serves as the senior access authority for evidence strategy, value-based care alignment, health-system economics, policy-informed forecasting and reimbursement readiness across the Heart Failure portfolio.

Location: Pleasanton or Santa Clara, California

WHAT YOU'LL WORK ON

Business and Strategic Leadership

  • Serve as a member of the Heart Failure business unit and functional executive leadership teams, shaping product, franchise and business strategy globally, including clinical and real-world evidence generation, regulatory planning, commercialization and market development.

  • Provide strategic direction and represent the payer, provider and health-system economic customer perspective in portfolio development, reimbursement strategy and commercialization decisions.

  • Shape Heart Failure business strategy by integrating patient access, hospitalization economics, evidence strategy, value-based care incentives, payer policy and commercial planning.

  • Partner with business and finance leaders to incorporate reimbursement, policy, evidence and adoption considerations into strategic planning and portfolio investment decisions.

  • Advise senior leadership on market entry, adoption barriers, evidence-generation priorities and reimbursement assumptions within business plans and forecasts.

  • Influence cross-functional strategies where health-system incentives, local evidence requirements, diagnostic pathways and infrastructure readiness determine access feasibility.

Global HE&R Strategy and Lifecycle Leadership

  • Lead integrated global access, reimbursement, health economic and policy strategies across the full product lifecycle, from innovation planning and clinical development through commercialization, expansion and lifecycle optimization.

  • Organize and lead cross-functional teams to develop health economic value messaging, reimbursement and coverage strategies based on a deep understanding of physicians, practice managers, providers, payers and health systems.

  • Develop differentiated access and value strategies that reflect the unique reimbursement systems, healthcare infrastructure and economic incentives of the U.S., established international markets and emerging markets.

  • Lead real-world evidence, economic modeling and local data-generation strategies to address payer, provider, policymaker and health-system decision needs.

  • Translate clinical value into health-system economic value, including the impact of hospitalization, readmissions, care pathways and system outcomes, where benefits may extend beyond direct device payment.

  • Elevate access literacy among functional executives and program teams to enable earlier and more effective consideration of reimbursement, evidence and economic requirements in the product lifecycle.

Functional Leadership and Capability Building

  • Lead and develop a global HE&R organization and network accountable for evidence generation, reimbursement strategy, policy engagement, market development, pricing support and access execution.

  • Set direction for regional and country HE&R teams managing coding, coverage, payment, evidence and access execution across geographies.

  • Build and sustain strong capabilities across HEOR, advocacy, policy and field reimbursement support to meet the needs of the business and patients.

  • Foster collaboration across commercial, clinical, medical affairs, regulatory, finance and regional teams to plan for, and subsequently accelerate, patient access and sustainable growth.

  • Develop talent, strengthen organizational capabilities and build succession plans across the global HE&R network.

External Stakeholder Leadership

  • Lead strategic relationships with providers, payers, government agencies, health systems and other health economic decision makers to shape policy and access pathways.

  • Engage hospital executives, evidence stakeholders, professional societies and government bodies on economic value, evidence and reimbursement strategy.

  • Build external support for reimbursement and adoption models that recognize avoided hospitalization, improved patient outcomes and health-system efficiencies.

  • Represent Abbott in high-stakes external engagements and lead senior payer and policy relationships globally, as appropriate.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE YOU'LL BRING

Required

  • Bachelor's degree with significant relevant experience, or an advanced degree in health economics, public health, health policy, business, medicine, pharmacy or a related discipline.

  • 15+ years of relevant experience in health economics, reimbursement, market access, evidence strategy, payer strategy, health policy or value-based care.

  • Deep understanding of U.S. and global healthcare payer systems, reimbursement policies, technology assessment and medical device commercialization.

  • Proven track record establishing or optimizing procedure coding, coverage, payment, evidence strategies and/or access pathways in the U.S. and major global markets.

  • Demonstrated success leading global, cross-functional teams and influencing senior executives, including C-suite engagement on access strategy.

  • Experience developing global evidence and value strategies tailored to different health-system incentives and local decision needs.

  • Strong business acumen and the ability to inform market entry, adoption, reimbursement and portfolio investment decisions.

  • Excellent executive communication, presentation, influence and negotiation skills.

Preferred

  • Medical device experience in cardiovascular disease, heart failure, digital health or another high-impact therapeutic area.

  • Familiarity with U.S. CMS and private payer processes, as well as reimbursement environments across Europe, Asia-Pacific and emerging markets.

  • Experience with heart failure, chronic disease management, remote monitoring, value-based care or hospitalization-avoidance economics.

  • Experience generating and applying real-world evidence for payer, provider and health-system decision-making.

  • Strong understanding of global care-model variation and infrastructure constraints in emerging markets.

  • Publications, conference presentations or external policy engagement in HE&R, HEOR, market access or health policy.

  • Passion for elevating adjacent capabilities by positioning access principles as strategic business enablers.
