Position Purpose
Reporting to the Environmental Services Director, the Environmental Services / Surveyor Tech is responsible for providing general clerical support for Planning and Zoning, Surveyor and Solid Waste department programs. 

Distinguishing Characteristics
This position is predominately clerical and is performed independently within well-defined office procedures. Some evening work required for evening Planning Commission and Board of Adjustment meetings.Essential Duties                                                                                                                                                    Estimated % Time
1. Office Reception/Clerical                                                                                       
  • Provide general reception duties 
  • Process/issue permits
    • Assist the public with permit applications
    • Receipt zoning fees and input data in permitting software
    • Direct individuals to the appropriate E.S. / Survey staff
    • Assist Surveyor with survey requests 
  • Administer pesticide examinations
  • Update/maintain interdepartmental tracking spreadsheets
  • Provide clerical support to feedlot officer and zoning administrator as needed 
  • Provide back up for Office Manager as needed
  • Assist in maintaining and improving the digital database /record management
  • Edit points/information in GIS mapping 
  • Process Office Mail

2. Planning Commission and Board of Adjustment Support
  • Draft and distribute notice of public meetings
  • Prepare and distribute meeting packets including agendas, prior minutes,  and attached materials for consideration 
  • Attend meetings and take minutes 
  • Schedule appointments with Board of Commissioners
  • Draft documents/orders for recording
  • Maintain records of meetings

3. Bookkeeping    
  • Prepare claim forms for submission for payment
  • Assists the E. S. staff with maintaining the E.S. financial records for both Solid Waste, Planning and Zoning and Surveyors office
  • Maintain grant tracking and general oversight
  • Provide support for equipment and vehicle management
  • Assist with the preparation of financial and grant reports as needed

Employment Standards
Education and experience
  • Certificate in Office Management or related field from a college or technical school
  • One year office management experience

  • An equivalent combination of related education, training and experience demonstrating the ability to perform the essential job functions

  • Working knowledge of Office Suite and Quickbooks; accurate typing, data entry, and 10 key
  • Strong customer service and reception skills
  • Strong organization and office management skills
  • Ability to foster effective working relationships among office members and the public 
  • Strong oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from members of public
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals 
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • Ability to work independently, and to accept responsibility and account for his/her actions, skilled in organizing and working as a team member
