Description

IT TECHNICAL PRODUCT MANAGER

Utah First Credit Union is seeking a technically fluent, business-minded IT Technical Product Manager to join our Information Technology team in a full-time capacity (40 hours per week). Reporting directly to the Senior Vice President of Information Technology, this role will define and execute product strategy for Utah First's core banking platform, while leading a small team of Product Owners of other platforms.

IT Technical Product Manager is an on-site position based at Utah First Credit Union's corporate headquarters in Salt Lake City. Regular in-person presence is expected to collaborate effectively with business leaders, technology teams, and external partners.

IT Technical Product Manager serves as the bridge between business strategy and technical execution. The IT Technical Product Manager will translate organizational priorities into actionable roadmaps, specifications, and measurable outcomes while balancing innovation with reliability, scalability, security, and regulatory expectations.

ROLE OVERVIEW

The IT Technical Product Manager owns the vision, strategy, roadmap, and delivery outcomes for Utah First's core banking and related technology products, with primary ownership of the Credit Union's Jack Henry Symitar platform.

Working across business units, internal technology teams, engineering resources, and third-party vendors, this leader will convert business objectives into clear technical requirements and prioritized work. The role is accountable for making informed tradeoffs among new capabilities, technical debt, scalability, system performance, risk, and member impact.

The successful candidate will combine product leadership, technical judgment, analytical discipline, and strong communication skills. This person will operate independently in a lean environment, lead a team of two to three Product Owners, and drive progress through productive partnerships with internal and external delivery teams.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Strategy and Roadmap: Define the technical product vision, strategy, and roadmap, aligning internal engineering efforts and third-party technology vendor deliverables with Utah First's business goals.

Symitar Product Ownership: Create, own, prioritize, and refine the product backlog for Utah First's Jack Henry Symitar environment, balancing feature requests with technical debt, scalability, system performance, risk, and operational needs.

Cross-Functional Partnership: Translate business objectives into precise technical specifications, user stories, acceptance criteria, and architectural requirements for internal engineering teams and third-party technology vendors.

Feasibility and Architecture: Evaluate technical constraints, validate system design decisions, and oversee integrations and technology-stack compatibility to support stable, scalable solutions.

Risk and Quality Management: Proactively identify, assess, and mitigate technical risks, information-security and compliance considerations, quality concerns, and performance bottlenecks.

Data-Driven Execution: Define success metrics, analyze product and operational data, conduct appropriate experiments such as A/B tests, and use database queries or reporting tools to evaluate performance and inform priorities.

Product Team Leadership: Lead, coach, and coordinate a team of two to three Product Owners responsible for other technology platforms, establishing clear priorities, ownership, delivery standards, and accountability.

LEADERSHIP AND TECHNICAL APPROACH

This role requires deep technical fluency without serving as a production software engineering position. The IT Technical Product Manager must understand software development principles, system architecture, APIs, integrations, and data pipelines well enough to challenge assumptions, assess tradeoffs, and guide sound technical decisions.

The successful candidate will communicate effectively with both non-technical stakeholders and highly technical engineering talent, create clarity amid complexity, and sustain momentum with minimal direct supervision. Coding proficiency is beneficial but writing production code is not required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Business, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

Proven experience managing the product lifecycle from concept and beta testing through launch, adoption, optimization, and scale.

Experience working with a credit union core banking system is required; direct experience with Jack Henry Symitar is strongly preferred.

Strong knowledge of software development principles, system architecture, APIs, integrations, and data pipelines; coding proficiency is a plus but is not required.

Demonstrated ability to translate business needs into technical specifications, user stories, acceptance criteria, and prioritized product backlogs.

Hands-on experience with data analysis, product and performance metrics, experimentation, and data-informed decision-making.

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage credibly with business leaders, operational teams, engineers, and external vendors.

Demonstrated ability to lead Product Owners or cross-functional product teams, establish accountability, and deliver outcomes through others.

Independent, resourceful self-starter who can learn quickly, make sound decisions, and maintain progress in a lean environment with minimal direct supervision.

WHY UTAH FIRST

This role offers the opportunity to shape how technology products support Utah First Credit Union's next phase of growth. The Technical Product Manager will have meaningful ownership of critical platforms, influence enterprise priorities, and help deliver reliable, scalable experiences for employees and members.

You will join a collaborative, purpose-driven organization that values initiative, thoughtful innovation, accountability, and the ability to turn complex challenges into practical results.

BENEFITS

Salary will be based on experience. Utah First Credit Union offers a comprehensive benefits package including health insurance, medical, dental, and vision coverage, 20 PTO days, 11 paid holidays, a 401(k) plan, and company contributions to a Health Savings Account.

ABOUT UTAH FIRST CREDIT UNION

The Utah First story began in 1935, in the midst of the Great Depression. A group of German immigrants were having a difficult time finding anyone to help them with the loans they needed to bring their families to America. They banded together to form a grassroots credit union that would serve all members of the community. Here, people found the positive answers and opportunities they needed to build their future.

Today, Utah First continues to grow while staying true to its roots, focused on community, relationships, and creating meaningful opportunities for members and employees alike.
