Director of Emergency Management & Plant Operations

A Critical Access Hospital located in a small rural West Texas community is seeking an experienced Director of Emergency Management & Plant Operations to provide leadership and oversight for facility operations, regulatory compliance, emergency preparedness, and support services.

This position is ideal for a hands-on leader who understands the unique needs of a rural healthcare environment and is comfortable overseeing multiple operational areas while maintaining a safe, compliant, and well-maintained environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

Key Responsibilities

The Director of Emergency Management & Plant Operations will provide leadership and oversight for:

• Life Safety & Environment of Care: Maintain compliance with applicable Life Safety and Environment of Care requirements, including inspections, documentation, corrective actions, and ongoing regulatory readiness.

• Emergency Management: Develop, maintain, and oversee the organization's emergency preparedness program, including emergency operations plans, drills and exercises, staff preparedness, required documentation, and coordination with community and regional partners.

• Maintenance & Plant Operations: Oversee the maintenance, repair, and operation of buildings, grounds, utilities, equipment, and facility systems, including preventive maintenance programs and coordination with outside vendors.

• Housekeeping & Laundry: Provide oversight of environmental services, housekeeping, and laundry operations to support cleanliness, infection prevention, safety, and efficient day-to-day operations.

• Regulatory Compliance: Help ensure compliance with applicable CMS Conditions of Participation, Joint Commission standards or similar accreditation requirements, Life Safety requirements, and applicable federal and state regulations.

• Team Leadership: Supervise and support staff within assigned departments, establish priorities, coordinate schedules and resources, and promote a culture of safety, accountability, and service.

Location

This is a full-time, on-site position located in a small rural community in West Texas. Candidates must currently reside in the area or be willing to relocate.

Requirements

Qualifications

Ideal candidates will have:

Previous experience in healthcare facility operations, plant operations, emergency management, facilities management, or a related leadership role

Familiarity with CMS requirements, Joint Commission standards or similar healthcare accreditation and regulatory requirements

Knowledge of Life Safety and Environment of Care standards

Experience with emergency preparedness planning, drills, documentation, and regulatory readiness

Experience overseeing maintenance, environmental services, housekeeping, laundry, or related operational departments

Strong organizational, leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills

Ability to manage multiple operational priorities in a hands-on rural healthcare environment

Healthcare facility experience is strongly preferred.
