Job Description:

The Software Analyst contributes to the design, development, integration, and testing of low- to medium-complexity operationally critical and safety-critical software systems within the railway signaling domain. Working under the guidance of a Senior Software Analyst or Technical Specialist, the incumbent develops expertise in one or more subsystem functional areas and supports the delivery of high-quality software solutions. The role involves analyzing requirements, implementing software changes, performing testing activities, and ensuring compliance with established software architecture, design patterns, and safety-critical development processes.

Key Responsibilities:

• Contribute to the refinement of mission and functional descriptions, software architecture, algorithm design, and functional and non-functional requirements.
• Design, code, debug, test, and review software components of low to medium complexity and criticality.
• Develop test procedures and execute software verification and validation activities.
• Produce and execute integration tests on simulated environments and target hardware test benches.
• Perform detailed impact analyses for software changes affecting multiple components under supervision.
• Investigate software defects, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
• Conduct engineering testing in simulation environments and support investigation of field-reported issues.
• Collaborate with Systems Engineering teams to ensure system-software consistency, proper component refinement, and compliance with software architecture.

Required Skills and Experience:

• Minimum 1 year of relevant professional experience in software development or engineering.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Foundational engineering analysis and troubleshooting skills, including the ability to diagnose issues using logs and correlate events to failures.
• Ability to work on small- to medium-scale software applications and deliver solutions within established engineering guidelines.
• Knowledge of software development processes and lifecycle methodologies.
• Ability to work independently and integrate effectively within a collaborative engineering team.
• Experience with software development environments and tools such as Microsoft Visual Studio, desktop simulators, and target simulators.
• Basic knowledge of railway signaling systems, including SelTrac CBTC.
• Experience working within Agile development environments.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience using source control, IDE, and requirements management tools such as Git, Jira, Eclipse, ClearCase, ClearQuest, and DOORS.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation.
• Experience developing software for embedded systems using C and C++.
• Experience using scripting languages such as Python, Perl, or Ruby.
• Exposure to modelling and simulation techniques.
• Experience developing software on Windows, Linux, and Unix platforms.
• Understanding of control theory concepts, including PID, PD, fuzzy logic, and adaptive controllers.
• Knowledge of graph theory concepts and applications.

Base Salary Range: $68,000 - $85,000
