Overview
The Medical Transcriptionist is responsible for accurately transcribing medical correspondence and clinical reports as dictated by the clinicians. This role also provides clerical and administrative support while ensuring strict compliance with confidentiality, HIPAA regulations, and organizational policies
Responsibilities
- Transcribes medical dictation (e.g., consults, discharge summaries, operative reports, referral letters, histories and physicals, procedure notes, and follow-up visits) from dictation equipment or written drafts and enters into EHR .
- Ensures accurate transcription with a 24-hour turnaround time.
- Ensure physicians are adhering to documentation timeliness per Pediatrix standard.
- Maintains and distributes patient reports and correspondence to referring physicians.
- Maintains organized, confidential records and updated referring physician contact information.
- Operates and maintains transcription equipment.
- Performs clerical and reception duties as needed.
- Communicate professionally and courteously with patients, families, providers, and staff.
- Treats all individuals with dignity, respect, and cultural sensitivity.
- Maintains strict confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA and company policy.
- Follows all safety, compliance, and organizational procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education:
- High School Diploma
- Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience will be considered
Experience Industry: Healthcare
Experience:
- One to three years’ related experience and/or training in a healthcare setting
- Familiarity with a healthcare setting and ability to demonstrate knowledge of medical terminology strongly preferred
Skills/Abilities:
- Familiarity with transcription software
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
