POSITION SUMMARY

The Gerald Bronfman Department of Oncology is seeking a highly motivated, organized, and collaborative Research Associate to support the development of competitive research funding proposals and lead research initiatives from conception to completion. The successful candidate will contribute to all phases of the research process, including study design, protocol development, ethics submissions, data collection, qualitative and quantitative analyses, interpretation of findings, and dissemination of results through scholarly publications and presentations.

The incumbent will also provide mentorship, guidance, and functional supervision to Research Assistants and graduate students, while contributing to the advancement of oncology and psychosocial research initiatives.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops and conducts research projects, study protocols, procedures, and grant-related activities as delegated by the Principal Investigator, ensuring the successful execution of research objectives.

  • Establishes the design and development of research methods, study protocols, data collection strategies, qualitative and quantitative analyses, and the interpretation of research findings.

  • Plans and leads the development of studies, questionnaires, participant recruitment activities, training of research personnel, data collection procedures, interviews, research documentation, and compilation of data related to oncology and psychosocial research projects.

  • Develops and implements cutting-edge analytical modelling (qualitative and quantitative) to support research objectives and advance scientific knowledge.

  • Leads the analysis and interpretation of research data and disseminates study findings through presentations, reports, scientific publications, and knowledge translation activities. Writes research reports and related research documents.

  • Writes theoretical, methodological, and scientific papers, articles, and manuscripts related to research activities and project outcomes.

  • Prepares and writes high-value grant applications (e.g. CIHR), funding proposals, ethics submissions, and supporting documentation for research initiatives.

  • Responsible for the quality and results of their own work and the work of research staff, trainees, and students under their functional supervision.

  • Organizes, distributes and verifies the work of Research Coordinators, Research Assistants, and Graduate Students, and participates in their training, mentorship, and development.

  • Performs various administrative tasks related to research projects, including project coordination, documentation management, reporting requirements, and research compliance activities.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possess a PhD and post-doctoral studies in a related field.

  • Have 5 years or more advanced research experience, with a proven track record of managing large-scale studies, budgets, and complex research workflows.

  • Familiarity with research administration processes, including preparation of Research Ethics Board (REB) submissions, study documentation, progress reports, and grant or funding applications.

  • Advanced proficiency with SPSS and Qualtrics

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare research materials, reports, presentations, and knowledge dissemination products for diverse audiences.

  • Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills, with experience interacting effectively with research participants, community partners, and multidisciplinary research teams.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within interdisciplinary and multicultural research environments.

  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing research priorities.

  • Demonstrated attention to detail, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities, with a commitment to maintaining high standards of research quality and integrity.

  • Knowledge of Nagano is an asset.
