Position Description:

The Campus Health Services department in the Division of Student Affairs at the University of Louisville is seeking to hire a Campus Health Specialist II (working title Health Navigator, Alcohol and Drug Education Programs). The Campus Health Specialist creates and presents educational programs and activities that focus on reducing alcohol and drug impacts on college students and provides outreach for Campus Health Services. The Campus Health Specialist also educates students on the programs and services offered by Campus Health Services and teaches students how to navigate health care entities after they graduate. Additionally, this position will evaluate and guide the development of a comprehensive campus-wide approach to providing educational programming.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with stakeholders to reduce high risk drinking and drug use by maintaining and developing comprehensive campus-wide and community-integrated prevention efforts regarding alcohol and substance abuse that impact the college student population

  • Coordinate the development, implementation and evaluation of programming related to alcohol and drug use prevention efforts, policies and procedures that promote resiliency, critical thinking skills and student retention

  • Work collaboratively with the Dean of Students Office, the Counseling Center, Student Affairs staff, University Housing and the Resident Experience, Athletics, Greek Life, other student groups, academic units and community partners to address alcohol and substance abuse by providing information and programming

  • Work collaboratively with the Dean of Students Office, the Counseling Center, Student Affairs staff, University Housing and the Resident Experience, UofL Athletics, Greek Life, student groups, and academic units to educate students about Campus Health Services and related resources

  • Attend Freshmen Orientation sessions to promote alcohol use education and to educate students and parents about Campus Health Services resources

  • Serve and participate on University and community committees to address issues related to alcohol and substance abuse

  • Coordinate with stakeholders and University partners to identify potential funds and draft and submit competitive grant proposals to support continual programming

  • Coordinate and manage First-Year Experience classes to promote alcohol and drug education and Campus Health Services

  • Collaborate with Student Affairs marketing staff to develop and expand the presence of alcohol and drug use education on campus, to families and to potential students and families

  • Work collaboratively with the Director of Finance and Operations to develop program budgets and to manage grants

  • Manage and supervise student workers of the University’s Alcohol and Drug Education programs

  • Assist with other Division initiatives and operations as necessary including, but not limited to, freshman orientation, Welcome Week, and resident move-in events

  • Perform other duties and complete special projects as assigned

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in public health, health education, counseling, college student personnel administration or social or behavioral science

  • Experience in alcohol and drug education strategizing and programming

  • Experience drafting grants and managing grant proposals

  • Proficient public speaking, group facilitation and coalition-building skills

  • Two (2) years of professional experience working in a collegiate environment

  • Experience working within a bureaucratic organizational structure

  • Track record of working successfully within a team

  • HIPAA and FERPA training certification

  • Ethics training certification

  • QPR training certification

Work Hours and Location

This is a full-time, exempt position with a 37.5-hour regular workweek including occasional evening and weekend hours as required. Additional work hours may be required based on department needs, programming, staffing, and/or scheduling. The primary work location for this position is at the Belknap Campus.
