A Brief Summary of This Position

The General Labor 1 is an Individual Contributor responsible for performing various tasks throughout the plant including general facility maintenance and assisting with routine preventative maintenance on machinery and equipment.

 

Essential Functions:

• Prepare surfaces, paint building interiors and power wash building exteriors

• Operate/Use cleaning machinery and equipment in production areas

• Perform miscellaneous seasonal grounds maintenance including snow/ice removal, planting and general grounds upkeep

• Assist Maintenance Department personnel with their essential duties

• Other duties as required and/or assigned

 

Important Details about the Role

• Accountable and responsible for essential tools and equipment provided along with the maintenance of these tools and equipment

• Actively participates in department safety, demonstrates excellent safety practices and behaviors which conform to all Valmont safety policies and procedures

• This position reports to the Production or Shipping Supervisor.

 

Required Qualifications of Every Candidate (Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

• The ability to run a floor sweeper

• The ability to calculate simple mathematics

• The ability to read a tape measure

• The ability to recognize and solve practical problems or issues

• The ability to work in a team environment with a diverse group of people

• The ability to pay attention to detail and follow work instructions

• The ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, although most frequent lift is up to 20 pounds

• The ability to become Valmont trained and certified in the operation of a forklift and scissor lift

• High awareness for safety at all times

• Wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required in the production facility

• Maintain a safe and productive working environment

Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent

• Six (6) months previous experience in a manufacturing or fabrication environment

• One (1) year previous experience operating hand and/or power tools

• The ability to communicate and interact with coworkers in a positive manner

• The ability to identify and communicate maintenance or product problems to departmental supervision

·         Demonstrate a commitment to Safety through excellent safety practices and behaviors by conforming to all Valmont safety policies and procedures

• Must be a person of passion and integrity who has the drive to excel and deliver exceptional results

 

Working Conditions & Physical Efforts:

Work is primarily performed in an indoor shop environment. This position will be exposed to all hazards located at manufacturing sites including noise, fumes, excessive heat/cold, dust, welding arc, all chemicals associated with the manufacturing areas, smoke, and confined spaces. Environment is fast paced and demanding most of the time. The job requires safety glasses, hearing protection, and metatarsal safety shoes be worn at all times. The employee must be able to spend the entire work shift on their feet within the shop environment. The incumbent must also be able to wear the required personal protective equipment (PPE) for working in the production facility.

 

Hazards:

This job requires handling metal objects, some of which have sharp edges. Extreme care and awareness should be taken for all production jobs. Below are some common hazards that exist for this particular position. Set up and run of equipment provides the potential for injury through slips, falls, strains, pinch points, tripping hazards, shot blasting equipment, high pressure air nozzles, material handling equipment.
