Description

About the company:

Our mission is that “Any financial application can onboard any user, anywhere in the world, in 1 click.” Transak provides onboarding to financial applications through authentication, KYC, risk checks, and fiat on/off ramps. This is a next generation of infrastructure for the next generation of financial applications that are built on blockchain and stablecoin rails. Our API and widget-based solutions are used by top partners like MetaMask, Coinbase, Ledger, and Trust Wallet to enable seamless onboarding of over 10 million users across over 450 active applications.

We have raised over $37M from top-tier investors including Consensys, Tether, and Animoca Brands.

About the Role

Transak requires an Australia-based Responsible Manager to support its Australian Financial Services Licence application and ongoing local operating model. The role is critical to sustaining and expanding Transak's Australia on/off-ramp business, including local card acquiring, planned bank transfer rails, and future Australian financial services coverage.

The Responsible Manager must be able to evidence organisational competence to ASIC, support AFSL application materials, and operate as a credible local regulatory and governance lead. The person should be practical, commercially aware, and comfortable working in a digital asset, payments, stablecoin, and cross-border financial services environment.

This role should not be treated as a generic compliance hire. It is a licensing-critical role with potential personal and organisational consequences if the person lacks appropriate experience, independence, documentation discipline, or regulator credibility.

Key Responsibilities

1. AFSL Application & Organisational Competence

  • Act as proposed Responsible Manager for Transak Australia's AFSL application, subject to counsel confirmation of fit.
  • Support preparation of ASIC FS01, A5/B5 business description proofs, RM proofs, competence statements, and related application materials.
  • Evidence appropriate knowledge, skill, experience, and availability to support Transak's proposed authorisations.
  • Work with AFSL House / local counsel to finalise the RM competence pack.
  • Support responses to ASIC questions during application review.

2. Digital Asset Product Perimeter & Token Governance

  • Support the token-by-token review required to determine which listed assets may be financial products under Australian law.
  • Help map services and product categories against the 31 December 2025 no-action relief cut-off.
  • Identify tokens or services that may fall outside available relief.
  • Support remediation plans where products, categories, or services are outside relief or outside intended AFSL coverage.
  • Maintain an Australia token perimeter register with Legal, Compliance, Product, and Risk.

3. Local Governance & Regulatory Relationship Management

  • Provide credible local regulatory oversight for Transak Australia.
  • Support board and director updates on AFSL, ASIC relief, remediation, AFCA, PI insurance, and compliance framework status.
  • Maintain audit-ready records of local decisions, approvals, and regulatory advice.
  • Coordinate with AFCA, ASIC-facing counsel, auditors, insurers, and banking partners as required.
  • Escalate issues promptly where local operations may exceed licence coverage, no-action relief, or risk appetite.

4. Compliance Framework Implementation

  • Localise Transak's compliance framework for Australia, including financial services compliance, AML/CTF interfaces, complaints, outsourcing, risk management, incident reporting, and breach escalation.
  • Support implementation of AFSL-ready policies and controls.
  • Define local monitoring, reporting, and evidence requirements.
  • Support Australia-specific training for Product, Operations, Legal, Compliance, Support, and Commercial teams.

5. Cross-Functional Enablement

  • Translate regulatory requirements into practical operating rules for Product, Engineering, Operations, Commercial, Treasury, and Support.
  • Help the business distinguish between acceptable growth, temporary restrictions, and hard regulatory blockers.
  • Support banking and PSP conversations by providing credible local compliance context.
  • Enable expansion without weakening documentation, escalation, or control standards.

Must-Haves

  • Australia-based and ordinarily resident in Australia.
  • 8+ years in financial services compliance, licensing, legal/regulatory, risk, payments, or digital assets.
  • Demonstrable ASIC-regulated financial services experience.
  • Prior Responsible Manager, AFSL application, authorised representative, compliance lead, legal counsel, or equivalent organisational competence experience.
  • Ability to support ASIC-facing RM proofs and regulator questions.
  • Strong understanding of Australian financial services regulation, Corporations Act obligations, AFCA, PI insurance, breach reporting, and governance expectations.
  • Practical understanding of payments, digital assets, stablecoins, crypto exchanges/on-off ramps, remittance, or fintech infrastructure.
  • Strong documentation and escalation discipline.
  • Commercial pragmatism and ability to work with Product, Operations, Legal, Compliance, Banking, and Commercial teams.

Nice-to-Haves

  • Existing or prior ASIC Responsible Manager status.
  • AICD membership or director governance training.
  • Legal qualification, accounting qualification, MBA, or relevant compliance certifications.
  • Prior work with crypto exchanges, stablecoin infrastructure, PSPs, remittance providers, or fintechs.
  • Existing relationships with Australian crypto/payments ecosystem, ASIC-facing advisers, AFCA, banking partners, or industry bodies.
  • Ability to also act as local country lead or support commercial partnerships, provided RM independence and competence are not compromised.
