General Information:
Job title: Laboratory Supervisor
Schedule: Full-time, 80 hours per pay period
Weekend rotation: Weekend rotation required
Holiday rotation: Holiday rotation required
Position Summary:
The Laboratory Supervisor position oversees the outreach clinic laboratories and daily lab operations when the Director is not available, to make sure the lab has the tools needed to perform necessary testing while being compliant with regulations.
Position Responsibilities:
- Complete daily, weekly, and monthly reports in the EHR. Review lab orders. Review lab results and correlate with other lab results. Review billing and make corrections as needed.
- Responsible for reviewing, updating, and following policies and procedures.
- Perform annual staff evaluations.
- Oversees outreach clinic lab staff and activities of the laboratory
- Performs competency assessments
- Manages proficiency testing compliance at the outreach clinic labs
- Answer staff questions and concerns and provide them with the resources they need to do their job and solve any issues.
- Perform laboratory tests in hematology (including manual differentials and morphological examination), coagulation, chemistry, blood gas, serology, blood bank (including antibody identification), and microbiology.
- Attend and participate in multiple committees and meetings.
- Maintains records for federal, state, and other appropriate license accreditation, if necessary. Monitors adherence to safety regulations.
- Initiates quality-control measures and monitors work quality for compliance with laboratory standards.
- Performs other related duties as needed.
Position Requirements:
- Two-year degree in Medical Laboratory Technician required or Four-year degree in Clinical Laboratory Science/Medical Laboratory Science/Medical Technology preferred.
- ASCP certification or equivalent required.
- 2+ years experience in a laboratory environment required.
- Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail required.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Intermediate to expert proficiency with computers is required.
- Requires independent action to establish own short-range plans within scope of hospital-wide policy and common goals, referring to senior management on matters requiring clarification, interpretation, or exception to hospital-wide policy.
- Demonstrated supervisory ability.
- Familiarity with state and federal regulations where applicable.
- Strong quantitative and analytical competency.
- Self-starter with excellent interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills.
