Location: Logan Health Medical Center – Kalispell, Montana
Schedule: Day Shift – 10 hours | PRN status

Logan Health is seeking a Health Unit Coordinator (HUC) to support our Holding Room. In this role, you'll serve as a central point of coordination for patients, providers, nurses, and ancillary departments, helping ensure patient care operations run smoothly and efficiently throughout each shift.

What You'll Do
As a Holding Room HUC, you'll provide administrative and operational support to the unit while helping maintain efficient patient care workflows. Responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating patient pre-admission, admission, transfer, and discharge processes

  • Creating, maintaining, and preparing patient records and documentation

  • Entering provider orders into the electronic medical record and completing essential administrative patient care functions

  • Monitoring patient screens and responding to alarms or changes by communicating with the appropriate care team members

  • Supporting nurses, providers, and interdisciplinary teams with daily patient care operations

  • Restocking patient rooms and supply areas and helping maintain equipment for safety and cleanliness

  • Supporting compliance with Medicare and other applicable regulatory standards

  • Maintaining office and unit supplies while using resources responsibly

  • Prioritizing tasks and adapting to changing patient care needs throughout the shift

  • Providing professional, compassionate service while maintaining patient confidentiality

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Post-high school education or vocational training in healthcare; other combinations of education and experience may be considered

  • Minimum of one (1) year of previous healthcare experience

  • Knowledge of medical terminology

  • Previous experience with electronic medical record (EMR) programs

Required Skills:

  • Knowledge of record keeping, documentation, filing, and basic office procedures

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to set priorities

  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities

  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities with accuracy, professionalism, and attention to detail

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn additional software as needed

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a healthcare team

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations with professionalism and diplomacy

  • Commitment to providing high-quality service with integrity, kindness, and empathy

Additional Requirements

  • RQI Responder required within seven (7) days of hire/transfer or before independent patient care, whichever comes first

  • Telemetry Certification through Logan Health required within three (3) months of hire, as applicable to the assigned area

  • Montana Notary Public Commission required within three (3) months of hire, as applicable to the assigned area

Qualifications:

  • Possess and maintain computer skills to include working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn other software as needed.  Previous experience with electronic medical record (EMR) programs preferred.

    • Telemetry Certification offered by Logan Health must be successfully obtained within three (3) months of hire.

Job Specific Duties:

  • Performs administrative and technical skills in an organized and accurate manner according to Logan Health (LH) policies and procedures and as applicable to assigned area(s).

  • Completes pre-admission, admission, and discharge processes as applicable for assigned area(s).

  • Responsible for creating, maintaining and preparing patient charts as applicable to assigned area(s).

  • Enters provider orders in the house wide computer system and completes essential administrative patient care functions as applicable to assigned area(s).

  • Assists the healthcare team in maintaining function in assigned area(s). These job functions include, but may not be limited to:

    • Restocking of rooms and supply areas.

    • Maintains the equipment in the patient care rooms for safety and cleanliness.

    • Assists the healthcare team in maintaining compliance with Medicare and all applicable regulatory standards.

  • Maintains close surveillance of patient monitor screens for patient deviations as applicable to assigned area(s).  Responds to monitor alarms and contacts appropriate stakeholder for patient care as applicable to assigned area(s). 

  • Works with the healthcare team to set and maintain patient care and work priorities while responding to a changing workload.  Adheres and upholds all LH customer service policies and standards while caring for patients and interacting with others.

  • Exhibits cost containment with all resources.  Orders and maintains office supplies as applicable to assigned area(s).

  • As applicable to assigned area(s): Performs notary functions within the requirements and guidelines of the state; processes paternity paperwork; functions as the birth registrar for by submitting birth certificate paperwork according to department procedure.

Day Shift - 10 Hours (United States of America)

Location: Logan Health Medical Center – Kalispell, Montana
Schedule: Day Shift – 10 hours | PRN status

Logan Health operates 24 hours per day, seven days per week.  Schedules are set to accommodate the requirements of the position and the needs of the organization and may be adjusted as needed.

PRN positions (also referred to as Casual, As Needed, or Per Diem) at Logan Health offer flexibility and are designed to provide coverage during busy periods, employee absences, and vacations, making them an excellent opportunity to support the team as needed. PRN employees can participate in a matching 401(k) plan and have access to the Employee Assistance Program. Additionally, they may qualify for hourly differential pay for certain shifts or hours, offering extra compensation based on department-specific scheduling needs. Pay rates and scheduling practices may vary by department.
