Cook/Dishwasher
We are looking for an experienced, energetic, inspiring and detailed-oriented Cook/Dishwasher who has the passion and commitment for working with young children, teachers and parents in an education setting, preparing and serving more than 500 high quality meals and snacks daily to students, staff, parents and special guests, and supporting our community partnerships. This is a full-time position with competitive pay and comprehensive health benefits.

COMPENSATION AND EVALUATION
One City offers market competitive salaries and wages with comprehensive health benefits to all full-time employees. Compensation will be consistent with One City’s approved compensation plan as stipulated by the Board of Directors. Salary & benefits include:
- Pay: $17.00 - $20.00 per hour
- Mon-Fri daytime schedule with occasional nights & weekend work available for school events.
- Generous time off program, including 18 Days of paid time off and holidays
- Schedule is approximately 11 months per year with three weeks of unpaid time in summer, 1.5 weeks unpaid at winter break, 1 week unpaid time at Spring Break and occasional unpaid days off when school is not in session. Employees are able to request work on unpaid days and/or use PTO.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
One City’s Cook will report to the Executive Chef and will assist with preparing and serving meals daily to children and staff, maintaining a clean kitchen and work environment, and supporting and assisting with special school events. Teamwork and a positive attitude are key to excelling at One City - we are often responding quickly to changes and scholar needs. Specific performance responsibilities include:
- Provides the highest quality of service to One City’s school community and guests at all times.
- Understand basic dining and classroom dining set-up and deliver and clear food and materials accordingly.
- Properly follow the procedure for disposing of kitchen waste materials and keeps the kitchen clean.
- Follows proper dishwashing procedures, including pots and pans and logs.
- Prepares foods under direct supervision or instruction of One City’s Executive Chef by operating a variety of kitchen equipment to measure mix ingredients, washing, peeling, cutting and shredding fruits and vegetables, and trimming and cutting meat, poultry or fish for culinary use.
- Prepares food in accordance with current applicable federal, state and corporate standards, guidelines and regulations to ensure high-quality food service is provided. Will also record meals and snacks in a manner consistent with the federal School Nutrition Program, with assistance from One City’s School Nutrition and Operations teams.
- Attends all required training, complies with all One City policies and procedures, complies with all school safety and risk management policies and procedures and participates in regular safety meetings, safety training and hazard assessments.
- Reports all accidents and injuries in a timely manner.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong commitment to the mission, vision, goals and objectives of One City, and to working with young children from diverse racial/cultural populations and their families.
- High school diploma or Equivalent.
- Minimum one (1) year of cooking and meal preparation experience in a commercial kitchen.
- Ideal candidate has previous experience with cooking in a school or daycare, and with federal SNP (School Nutrition Program) or CACFP (Child and Adult Care Food Program), but not required
- Close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus, with or without corrective lenses; excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to work in a standing position for long periods of time (up to 8 hours).
- Ability to reach, bend, stoop, push and/or pull, and frequently lift up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift/move 40 pounds.
- Excellent judgment, communication and creative problem-solving skills.
- Energetic, flexible, collaborative and proactive.
- Completion of a background check required.
- Be at least 18 years of age.

The campus is situated just 5 blocks from Lake Monona, just north of Lake Waubesa and 10 minutes from downtown Madison.
