The Tool Design Engineer is responsible for the design, validation, control, and continuous improvement of tooling, fixtures, work holding systems, and manufacturing aids that enable safe, repeatable, capable, and cost-effective manufacturing processes. This role partners with Manufacturing Engineering, Production, Quality, and Operations teams to develop robust tooling solutions that support new product introductions, production efficiency, quality improvement, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Tooling & Fixture Design: Design and develop fixtures, work holding systems, jigs, gauges, manufacturing aids, and cutting tool assemblies to support production requirements.
- Design for Manufacturing Performance: Ensure part stability and rigidity, repeatability, positional accuracy, accessibility for machining and inspection, and support for complex geometries and tight tolerances.
- Manufacturing & Process Support: Partner with Manufacturing Engineering to develop, validate, and risk-proof tooling solutions that enable robust production processes and successful product launches.
- Tooling Validation & Qualification: Validate and qualify tooling performance to ensure production readiness, process capability, and sustained quality and productivity.
- Continuous Improvement: Improve setup time, tool life, operator usability, ergonomics, manufacturing efficiency, and process capability through standardized tooling solutions.
- Cost & Productivity Improvement: Drive productivity and cost competitiveness through efficient, standardized, and automation-ready tooling designs.
- Compliance & Documentation: Maintain tooling documentation, configuration control, engineering drawings, and compliance with engineering, quality, and safety requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field or
- 3 Years Technology course / 3 Years ME/ECE/EE/IE
- Experience in tooling, fixture design, machining processes, CAD software, and manufacturing engineering is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of GD&T, workholding systems, cutting tools, and Design for Manufacturing principles.
- Willing to accept a project-based employment arrangement for a minimum period of six (6) months.
