About the role:

This position is responsible for leading the CRM Active Implantable Systems (AIS) Mobile Monitor team, with a focus on developing and testing mobile medical software. The team’s primary responsibilities include the development and formal verification of mobile monitor software.
This is a hands-on engineering management role that combines people leadership with active technical contribution. Approximately 50% of the role is focused on leading, developing and supporting a team of engineers, while the remaining 50% is dedicated to hands-on software engineering, including mobile application development, automated testing, design reviews and code reviews. The Software Engineering Manager plays an active role in delivering the efficient, high-quality design, development and testing of this critical software.
Work model, sponsorship, relocation:
At Boston Scientific, we value collaboration and synergy. This role follows an on-site work model requiring employees to be in our Arden Hills, Minnesota office at least four days per week. Your responsibilities will include:
- Provide leadership, management and mentoring to R&D team members, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence while supporting employee career development.
- Ensure high-quality R&D functional deliverables, support technical projects of significant scope and maintain technical excellence across product and technology integration activities.
- Develop and monitor department budgets; determine appropriate staffing levels, schedules and resources; and prepare and manage resource plans for R&D initiatives.
- Set project- and program-level strategy for assessing, documenting, modifying and testing integrated medical devices.
- Build strong cross-functional partnerships and collaborate with quality, regulatory, project management, manufacturing and marketing teams to drive results.
- Present project and technical updates and strategic recommendations to senior management, providing clear communication to stakeholders at key milestones.
- Guide, train and develop team members, supporting career goals and motivating individuals and teams to achieve results.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory requirements and standards throughout the product life cycle while monitoring relevant industry trends and technological advancements.
- Lead technology integration and knowledge transfer within the area of responsibility and drive the development of department tools and methodologies.
- Develop project investment proposals and business cases as needed.
- Develop a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE)-intensive native mobile application for Android and/or iOS.
- Develop highly testable code and write automated unit, integration and functional tests.
- Participate in design reviews and provide architectural feedback.
- Conduct peer code reviews.
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in software engineering, computer engineering or computer science.
- Minimum of 8 years' experience with a bachelor’s degree or minimum of five years' experience with a master’s degree.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience developing or testing Android or iOS applications, including a minimum of one year using Kotlin or Swift.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience leading a team of mobile engineers.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in leadership, supervisory, project management or people management roles, including using influence to drive technical results.
- Demonstrated success leading teams of six or more engineers, managing complex projects and delivering results in integration or new product development environments.
- Background in a regulated development environment developing against web services (medical device preferred).
- Hands-on knowledge of automated testing for Android or iOS applications.
- Proven technical leadership in product and process design.
- Sound technical judgment, with a demonstrated track record of synthesizing inputs from multiple and varied sources to draw conclusions and make recommendations.
- Strong leadership, communication, collaboration and organizational skills.
- Proven effectiveness working with minimal direction in a global, matrixed and fast-paced environment.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master’s degree in software engineering, computer engineering, computer science or a related field.
- Proven success building partnerships with cross-functional teams within and outside product development.
- Background working with global R&D teams.
- Demonstrated success prioritizing resource needs across competing projects.
- Track record of leading change management initiatives.
- Strong communication skills, with confidence leading technical discussions across all organizational levels.
