About the Position: Under the direction of the Supervising Registered Dietitian, provides nutrition counseling, education, training and consulting services to participants in the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program, including high-risk clients; provides technical assistance, consultation, training and education to agency staff; provides educational presentations to the community.
- Assists in the development and maintenance of the nutrition education policies and procedures.
- Plans, develops, implements and teaches classes on nutrition, infant feeding, breast feeding education and support, and general nutrition.
- Provides training to WIC employees in nutrition assessment and nutrition education plans.
- Conducts nutrition assessments and develops nutrition education plans.
- Conducts nutrition education programs for individuals, families and private and public agencies throughout the county.
Bilingual Candidates: Translates, interprets and otherwise communicates with members of the Spanish speaking community.
Knowledge of:
- Applicable Federal, State, County, Department, and Division laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
- Human nutrition and its relationship to health and disease.
- Health and nutritional issues concerning pregnant or nursing women, infants and children.
- Principles and techniques of nutrition counseling including menu planning and food preparation methods.
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in nutrition sciences, community, clinical, or public health nutrition or dietetics.
- Other combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Registered Dietitian II: A minimum of one (1) year of relevant experience within a community nutrition clinic setting is desirable.
License & Special Requirements:
- Possession of, or ability to obtain and maintain, a valid California Class C Driver License and a satisfactory driving record is required. Individuals who do not meet this requirement due to a disability will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
- Certification as a Lactation Educator is desirable.
Bilingual Candidates: Must pass a written and/or oral bilingual proficiency test (or another appropriate test selected by the County) to qualify.
Registered Dietitian II: Must possess a Registered Dietitian (RD) title as registered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the American Dietetic Association.
1st - Thursday, August 27, 2026 from 10:00am to 12:00pm.
2nd - Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at 1:00pm.
New employees should anticipate being hired at the beginning step of the salary range. Candidates who exceed entry level qualifications may be considered, with approval from the Board of Supervisors, for placement at other than A step.
