Job Overview
The Vice President of Enterprise Technology and Architecture is a senior enterprise leadership role responsible for building and running the operating system through which Tufts Medicine Information Services plans, prioritizes, funds, executes, measures, and sustains technology-enabled work.
This role is both operational and transformational.
The VP is responsible for strengthening and maintaining IS operating discipline, including oversight of budget management, portfolio planning, demand and capacity visibility, performance reporting, vendor accountability, major initiative oversight, service reliability, incident and change maturity, and execution discipline across enterprise priorities such as ERP.
In addition, the role plays a key role in evolving IS into a higher-capability, product-oriented, and AI-enabled shared service. This includes influencing how work is structured and delivered, aligning team models to enterprise needs, enabling the effective adoption and scaling of emerging technologies, and supporting the development of future capabilities and roles.
The focus of the role is not innovation for its own sake, but the development of a more effective, adaptive, reliable, and value-driven IS organization.
This position operates with delegated authority to establish and enforce the management practices necessary for IS to function as a reliable, transparent and outcome-oriented enterprise capability.
Job Description
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
2. Ten (10) years of leadership experience in information services, technology operations, enterprise transformation, shared services, digital, or complex operational environments.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.

2. Establishes the core operating rhythm for IS, including annual planning, budget management, portfolio visibility, performance reporting, executive reviews, and operating dashboards.
3. Creates transparency into demand, capacity, commitments, risks, dependencies, costs, and tradeoffs.
4. Establishes consistent performance measures across reliability, delivery, vendor performance, financial performance, adoption, and value realization.
5. Ensures IS leadership and governance bodies have credible data to support prioritization, escalation, and decision-making.
6. Builds and matures IS portfolio management, including intake, prioritization, sequencing, capacity planning, dependency visibility, and governance reporting.
7. Translates enterprise priorities into actionable portfolio recommendations grounded in capacity, cost, risk, dependencies, readiness, and expected value.
8. Provides executive operating oversight for major cross-functional initiatives, including ERP and other enterprise-scale transformation programs.
9. Ensures major initiatives have clear sponsorship, funding, milestones, resource plans, risk management, adoption plans, and transition-to-support expectations.
10. Identifies barriers early, coordinate escalation, and holds teams accountable for implementation, stabilization, adoption, and benefit realization.
11. Strengthens financial discipline across IS, including budgeting, forecasting, cost transparency, investment planning, renewals, vendor spend, and value realization.
12. Partners with the CIO to advance IS toward a shared service model with clearer articulation of service levels, cost, consumption, value, and enterprise impact.
13. Helps evolve IS from a function- and project-based model toward a product- and capability-based operating model.
14. Support clearer ownership, roadmaps, lifecycle management, service expectations, success metrics, and value measures for major platforms, services, and capabilities.
15. Identify the roles, skills, workflows, and capabilities IS will need as AI, automation, data, and platform-based models mature.
16. Partner in moving emerging capabilities from isolated pilots to scalable, governable, and supportable enterprise services where appropriate.
17. Builds customer success and adoption practices that ensure technology-enabled change is usable, adopted, sustained, and valuable.
18. Incorporates human-centered design, stakeholder readiness, workflow alignment, change management, communications, training, post-live optimization, and value realization, as appropriate.
19. Continues supporting the maturation of service, incident, change, portfolio, financial, vendor, performance, and value-realization operations.
20. Fosters transparency, accountability, continuous improvement, and enterprise orientation across IS and its partners.
21. Advances IS as a coordinated enterprise capability that can continuously adapt as technology, AI, and enterprise needs evolve.
Physical Requirements:
1. Professional office environment with typical office requirements such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, etc.
2. This is largely a sedentary role, which involves sitting most of the time, but may involve movements such as walking, standing, reaching, ascending / descending stairs, and operate office equipment.
3. Frequently required to speak, hear, communicate, and exchange information.
4. Able to see and read computer displays, read fine print, and/or normal type size print and distinguish letters, numbers, and symbols.
5. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Skills & Abilities:
1. Ability to read and write in the English language.
2. Demonstrated ability experience leading planning, budgeting, performance management, governance, and operating model improvement in a complex enterprise.
3. Proficient in leading large-scale enterprise initiatives, platform transformation, shared services, or major technology-enabled operating model change.
4. Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, business case creation, and value realization.
5. Strong ability to work with executive, clinical, operational, finance, HR, and technology leaders to align priorities and execute complex work.
6. Competently manages or governs third-party vendors, managed service providers, and multi-partner delivery environments.
7. Familiarity with product-oriented operating models, agile delivery practices, customer success, human-centered design, change management, shared service economics, and AI-enabled transformation.
8. Strong executive presence, communication skills, and ability to influence without relying solely on direct authority.
9. Strong ability to create structure in ambiguous environments and translate strategy into operating discipline.
Job Profile Summary
This role focuses on the design, development, and implementation of information technology (IT) solutions in order to meet the organization's needs through new and existing applications, systems architecture, network systems and applications infrastructure and the management of the IT infrastructure. In addition, this role focuses on performing the following IT Leadership duties: Controls, directs, and participates in the activities of the organization through a hierarchy of managers and supervisors. Responsibilities also include long-term strategic planning, determining the policies of the organization, and allocating its resources and making decisions regarding organization growth and diversification to accomplish entity's vision. An executive role that provides strategic vision and/or tactical/strategic direction across multiple teams with the majority of time spent on overseeing area of responsibility and directing the responsibilities of employees. Goal achievement is typically accomplished through performance of direct and/or indirect reports. An entity sub-function head role accountable to establish and implement strategies that have short to mid-term (1-3 years) impact on business results in alignment with function objectives. Leads multiple teams of directors/senior managers and managers and develops short to mid-term (1-3 years) plans for optimizing the function or sub-function and the talent required to execute strategies in job area.
The salary range for this position is $280,000.00 to $315,000.00 annually. Actual compensation will be determined during the selection process and is based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to relevant experience, education, and internal equity.
This leadership role also includes eligibility for our executive incentive plan, providing an additional performance-based compensation opportunity. Award opportunities are calculated as a percentage of your base salary and are paid out based on the achievement of approved goals and Tufts Medicine’s overall performance.
