Job Scope
The Systems Engineer will be responsible for the design, configuration, deployment, and maintenance of the OT and server infrastructure supporting ABB 800xA Distributed Control Systems (DCS). This includes managing Windows-based servers, virtual environments, network security, and system performance to ensure reliable and secure operation of the control system platform.
This role serves as the technical bridge between automation and IT, ensuringseamless integration of control networks and corporate systems while maintaining system availability, cybersecurity, and lifecycle management.
Key Responsibilities
Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to)
- Design, configure, and maintain Windows Server environments (physical and virtual) supporting ABB 800xA systems.
- Install, configure, and maintain ABB 800xA system software, domain controllers, operator workstations, engineering stations, and network components.
- Manage Active Directory (AD), Group Policies (GPO), and user access control for DCS environments.
- Implement and manage data backup, recovery, and redundancy solutions in alignment with ABB recommendations and Lyten IT policies.
- Perform patch management and system updates while ensuring uptime of production systems.
- Support system commissioning, FAT/SAT testing, and system upgrades or migrations.
- Monitor system performance and resource utilization; optimize for high availability and low latency.
- Implement and maintain cybersecurity measures including antivirus, firewalls, and network segmentation according to ISA/IEC 62443 standards.
- Collaborate with Application engineers, IT departments, and ABB technical support for troubleshooting and integration activities.
- Prepare and maintain comprehensive system documentation, architecture diagrams, and maintenance procedures.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 3–5 years of experience with Windows Server administration in an industrial automation or DCS environment.
- Hands-on experience with ABB 800xA system architecture, configuration, and maintenance.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Windows Server 2016/2019/2022
- Active Directory and GPO management
- Virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V)
- Networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLANs, firewalls)
- RNRP network and routing
- Familiarity with backup solutions (e.g., Acronis, Veeam, ABB recommended tools).
- Experience in system hardening and cybersecurity best practices.
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Specific skills
- Good skills in English since it is main used language
- Experience with ABB 800xA upgrades, domain migrations, or server clustering.
- Knowledge of ISA/IEC 62443 cybersecurity framework.
- Familiarity with Microsoft SQL Server administration and historian database systems.
- Experience working in regulated or mission-critical industries (power, mining, process automation).
- ABB Certified or Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) is an advantage.
- Knowledge of goose protocol IEC 61850
