CUSTODIAN (LEAD) 

Under general supervision, leads a crew of Custodians performing cleaning activities in assigned buildings. This class can perform all tasks associated with cleaning the interior of office building and other county facilities to include cleaning floors and carpets; dusting and polishing furniture, woodwork, office fixtures, etc.; cleaning restrooms, hallways, lobbies, stairways, offices, drinking fountains, light fixtures, trash receptacles and interior air vent fixtures in office buildings; and washing windows, walls, etc.

The ideal candidate:

• Leads by working alongside their team and taking an active role in daily custodial operations.
• Maintains clean and safe facilities while supporting and guiding their team to meet established quality standards.
• Brings at least two years of custodial experience in a commercial, industrial, health care, or public facility setting.
• Operates custodial equipment safely and effectively, including floor buffers and other specialized equipment.
• Demonstrates strong work habits, teamwork, professionalism, and a commitment to safe work practices.
• Communicates clearly and professionally with staff, supervisors, and customers while building positive working relationships.
• Organizes and prioritizes assignments while adapting to changing facility needs.
• Provides training and direction to staff, monitors supply inventories, and ensures work is completed efficiently. 

The eligible list created as a result of this recruitment will be used to fill part-time and full-time regular, limited-term or extra-help positions as vacancies occur or the need arises.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Education: High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
Experience: Equivalent to two years of full-time paid experience performing custodial work in a health care, commercial, industrial and/or public building/facilities setting.

LICENSING, CERTIFICATION AND REGISTRATION REQUIREMENTS

Applicants are required to possess a valid California Driver’s License, Class C.
Note: The driver’s license must be kept current while employed in this class.

All applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through any subsequent phase of the examination. Depending upon the number of applications received, the selection process may consist of an initial application screening, a mandatory information meeting, a supplemental questionnaire assessment, a written and/or practical exam, an oral board exam, or any combination listed. Responses to supplemental questions may be used as screening and testing mechanisms and will be used to assess an applicant’s ability to advance in the process; as such, responses to supplemental questions should be treated as test examination responses. A minimum score of 70% is required to continue in the selection process, unless otherwise announced.
