We are seeking an Assistant Director of Non-US Tax Planning to lead and support direct and indirect tax activities across the Latin America (LATAM) region and the Iberian Peninsula. Based in Lisbon, Portugal, this role offers an exciting opportunity to partner with stakeholders across the business, provide strategic tax guidance, ensure compliance, and contribute to the company's overall tax planning and operational objectives.

Purpose of the role

Reporting to the Executive Director Non - US Tax Planning, you will oversee the international tax planning function for the LATAM and Iberian region, providing advice for tax-efficient business transactions and developing, managing, and implementing tax planning strategies and special projects.

You will work closely with the Global Tax Team and non-Tax colleagues on any broad policy or specific issues with tax implications.

You will lead the resolution of tax controversies and present impacts of the regional law changes to leadership.

 

In this role you will have no direct reports, but you will be responsible for managing the external accountancy firm.

Responsibilities

• Oversee regional tax planning in close alignment with the global tax strategy;
• Identify, evaluate and implement opportunities to minimize the effective global tax rate and cash taxes while effectively managing risk;
• Review international tax elements of tax planning and strategy;
• Lead the resolution of regional direct and indirect tax inspections;
• Ensure all tax aspects of tax planning and transactions are properly reported and appropriately disclosed in the tax compliance and tax reporting;
• Inspire individuals within the international and tax planning groups in the implementation of projects;
• Execute and prepare research and computational analysis of regional tax and indirect tax issues and considerations in relation to transactions and planning initiatives;
• Lead implementation of tax planning initiatives to optimize worldwide tax liabilities, which includes the coordination of all stakeholder approvals, documentation, and non-tax considerations.

 

Required Education, Experience and Skills

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field;
• At least 5 years of experience with large corporate tax structures in a multinational, public accounting or a law firm environment;
• Technical skills in relation to taxation of business and cross border/ international transactions;
• Experience with US GAAP international tax accounting reporting rules;
• Proven organizational and project management skills in a fast-paced environment;
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to review numerical tax analysis and supporting details in support of the projects;
• Able to extract, analyze, and review data and make appropriate recommendations;
• Strong organizational skills;
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly around the ability to translate complex analyses to non-Tax employees;
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, Spanish and Portuguese; Fulltime available and willing to travel internationally (low frequency).
