Description
Fortune Media is reinventing how a storied brand, steeped in journalism and business, adapts to today's digital first world. As Fortune completes its transformation from print magazine to multi channel media company, our teams work across editorial, conferences, Fortune Recommends and more, supported by a global workforce spanning New York, London and Asia.
We are looking for a hands on Director of IT to own the technology backbone the company runs on: identity, endpoints, networking, security, collaboration tooling, and office infrastructure. You will lead a team of two and be personally accountable for both day-to-day service quality and the long-term modernisation of how IT operates. This is a working leadership role, reporting to the VP of Engineering. You will be in the systems, not just managing the queue.
We are a Microsoft shop, a fixed constraint, not a preference. You will own the following end to end (administration, security, vendor relationship, roadmap):
Identity & Access: Azure AD, MFA (Microsoft Authenticator), M365 and Google Workspace account lifecycle, LastPass, badge management
Endpoints & Asset Lifecycle: Jamf, Intune (MDM), laptop builds, hardware asset management
Network & Infrastructure: Cisco Meraki, VPN, DNS (AWS), SSL, Azure VMs/VNETs, WS_FTP
Security & Compliance: CrowdStrike, Arctic Wolf, Proofpoint/Exchange spam filtering, Microsoft Purview
M365 & Google Workspace: Exchange, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive, Forms, Google Workspace administration
Collaboration: Zoom, Slack
Service Desk: Zendesk
Business Applications & Automation: WoodWing, Power Automate, DocuSign, Atlassian, Workday, Adobe Creative Cloud, Claude, Cursor
Office Systems & AV: PaperCut, video displays, security cameras, video platforms
Responsibilities
Manage, coach and grow a team of two (systems administration and video/AV support)
Support offices and remote staff across New York, London and Asia, coordinating across time zones with local vendors and facilities partners
Support live and hybrid events, executive meetings, and newsroom broadcast needs
Own the IT budget, vendor renewals, license management, and contract negotiation
Serve as the single point of accountability for corporate IT, partnering with Engineering, HR, Finance, Legal and Facilities
Required Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of experience in IT operations or infrastructure required. 10-12 years, including 2+ years managing people, preferred.
Strong Microsoft 365 and Azure AD / Entra ID administration
Deep, hands-on networking expertise (LAN/WLAN, VLANs, DNS/DHCP, VPN, firewall policy, multi-site connectivity); this is a hard requirement
Deep, hands-on security expertise (IAM, endpoint security, patch and vulnerability management, MFA/conditional access, incident response); this is a hard requirement
Experience supporting global, distributed offices across time zones
Strong communication skills and the judgment to explain risk and tradeoffs to non-technical executives
Preferred Qualifications
Scripting or light development skills (Python, PowerShell, Bash, JavaScript)
Hands-on experience with Cursor, Claude Code, or similar AI-assisted development tools
MDM at scale (Jamf and/or Intune) and zero-touch deployment
Track record of automating manual IT processes
Media, publishing, or live events environment experience
Vendor negotiation and IT budget ownership
Relevant certifications (CCNA/CCNP, CISSP, Security+, Microsoft 365/Azure) welcome but not required
Compensation: $150,000- 165,000 base salary plus 10 to 20% discretionary annual bonus
A Few Of Fortune’s Perks And Benefits
20 vacation days and 2 personal days on top of 11 company holidays and an honor-based sick leave policy
Health, dental, and vision coverage (90% paid for individuals and families), along with flexible spending accounts where Fortune contributes to your HSA
401(k) plan
Generous parental leave
Dependent care, commuter, and cell phone benefits
Tuition reimbursement program
A commitment to an open, inclusive, and diverse work culture
