The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Description of Work

Reporting to the Correctional Associate Warden for Custody/Operations, this position is responsible for providing clerical/secretarial support and performing various administrative duties for a Correctional Facility. Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Maintaining records using a computer and systematic filing system. Operating various types of standard office equipment.
- Planning and prioritizing work duties, understanding and carrying out both oral and written instructions, reviewing completed tasks to ensure accuracy, and meeting daily and monthly deadlines.
- Answering high volume phone calls, performing other clerical and administrative duties as required, and communicating effectively with staff, including limited contact with offenders.
- Navigating OPUS (Offender Population Unified System) regarding offender records and assisting with preparations for audits and inspections.
- Assisting the Correctional facility’s Chaplain with clerical duties, including, ordering supplies, maintaining and/or sharing the Chaplain’s Religious Event Calendar, and composing and sending out correspondence for the Chaplain.

Salary Range: $31,200 - $51,249

The salary grade for this position is NC02.  State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position.  If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity.  Based upon these factors, a pay increase May result.

About the Division of Institutions:

The Division of Institutions manages the daily operations of all state-operated prison facilities across North Carolina. Facilities are categorized by custody levels (minimum, medium, close) and house individuals serving sentences for felony convictions. The division provides safety, security, and rehabilitative services through trained custody staff, program facilitators, and administrative personnel.

About Southern Correctional Institution:

Southern Correctional Institution is located in Troy, North Carolina and houses up to 700 male offenders in a close, medium, and minimum custody facility.
