Position Purpose:
The Polysomnographic Technologist - Registered is responsible for providing comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders to include: polysomnography, diagnostic or therapeutic services, patient care and education meeting standards put forth by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM). Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: patient preparation, testing, accuracy of documentation and record scoring, responding to emergencies, participates in maintaining of the sleep centers, trouble shooting and maintaining of equipment; oversees and performs complex procedures and therapeutic interventions; functions within the standards, policies, procedures and guidelines of the organization.
What You Will Do:
- Clinical Practice: Prepares & calibrates testing equipment, prepares patient for testing, establishes and documents baseline values, follows polysomnographic testing procedures (MSLT, MWT, parasomnia studies, PAP, oxygen titration etc.) to ensure quality data acquisition, documents routine observations, including sleep stages, clinical events, changes in procedures and other significant events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretations of results; implements interventions necessary to ensure patient safety, modifies procedures to particular clinical circumstances, within center standards.
- Documentation: Gathers & analyzes patient information: accurately completes pre-testing, testing and post procedure documentation; scores sleep/wake stages utilizing professionally accepted guidelines; scores clinical events (respiratory, cardiac, limb movement, arousal etc.) generates accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical data events; scoring in accordance with 85% of the AASM Inter-scorer reliability QA Program's (ISR) Gold Standard;
- Communication and collaboration: establishes rapport with patients and ensures timely communicates of pertinent clinical information to members of the health care team; collaborates internally & externally to provide an optimal patient experience.
- Performance Improvement / Data Management: In conjunction with Operations Coordinator, assists in collection, collation, & reporting of performance data; participates with the Sleep Center team to ensure regulatory compliance to achieve ASSM standards.
- Education and Outreach: Coordinates/facilitates patient/family education; promotes center and program development through outreach.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: Associates or Bachelor's degree preferred with an emphasis in polysomnography. Alternative Polysomnography program (not less than 1 year) associated with a state licensed and/or nationally accredited educational facility with equivalent experience may be considered.
- Licensure / Certification: Certification as Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) required.
- Experience: Two (2) years of experience in a full-service sleep center preferred.
- Effective Communication Skills
- BLS - Healthcare Provider
- ACLS preferred
- Proficiency in the principles of Polysomnographic and electroencephalography
