  • Hours of Work: Monday – Friday 8:00am to 5:00pm. 

  • Screening will begin ASAP and continue until the position(s) is filled.

  • Start date to be determined, but as soon as practicable after the hiring/interview process.

Salary and Benefits: This is a full-time, benefited Staff, S28 level position. Starting salary range: $43,338.00 - $53,090.00/annually, depending upon experience.

The GEAR UP Coordinator exists to educate and support GEAR UP junior high students, high school students, and GEAR UP parents/guardians. The GEAR UP Coordinator supports, promotes, attends, and carries out GEAR UP events and lessons. The GEAR UP Coordinator adheres to the GEAR UP grant guidelines, works collaboratively, and strives to meet grant goals. 

This position is grant-funded; specific parameters associated with the grant may impact the start/stop of any employment relationship as well as compensation. Provides feedback, adapts, and implements grant-related content for junior high and high school students by delivering lessons routinely in one-on-one or small group settings. 
  • Provide education and support for students and parents to assist with financial aid opportunities. 

Provides intensive support to high school seniors by guiding and assisting students as they apply to college, apply for financial aid, make a college decision, and complete enrollment steps. 

Contributes to GEAR UP events and field trips by recruiting, marketing, participating, and assisting in the development and implementation of GEAR UP events. 

Ensures student and grant success by effectively coordinating with all GEAR UP stakeholders.    
  • Sharing relevant student and grant information 
  • Utilizing various communication methods 
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and utilize documentation processes 
  • Foster strong relationships with stakeholders 
Other responsibilities may be assigned based on contemporary institutional needs.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of administrative and office procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, designing forms, and workplace terminology. 
  • Knowledge, awareness, and sensitivity to the legalities of working with minors. 
  • Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups relevant to appropriate grade level. 
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services, including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards of services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. 
Skills 
  • Active Listening – giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times. 
  • Office Suite Software – Microsoft Office software as well as Microsoft Outlook. 
  • Instructing – teaching others how to do something. 
  • Proficient in organizing, updating, and maintaining accurate records in both physical and digital formats. 
Abilities 
  • The ability to effectively generate and express your thoughts, ideas, and messages to diverse people in oral and written form. Public speaking skills and ability to write/edit emails, letters, and technical reports. 
  • Capable of representing the organization in a professional manner, adapting to various situations with maturity, and maintaining confidentiality and discretion at all times. 
  • Ability to use records management software and tools to ensure easy access and security of information. 
  • Capable of working autonomously and taking action to address challenges or improve processes as well as meet deadlines.  
  • Able to anticipate needs and proactively address them, consistently showing motivation and drive in achieving objectives. 

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:

  • There may be occurrences of interacting with employees and/or students, past employees and/or students, members of the general public, and others who express opinions, may exhibit strong emotions, which will require the employee to interact professionally, diplomatically, and appropriately in such situations
  • While performing the essential duties of this position, an employee would frequently be required to move around the assigned work areas as well as within hallways, meeting rooms, and other parts of the campus facilities
  • There may be multiple/daily instances of prolonged sitting, standing, and personal computer use, which would include keyboard and/or mouse usage as well as viewing a computer monitor
  • An employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds 
  • Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, and ability to adjust focus
  • The overall work environment requires the mental ability to shift focal point quickly due to interruptions; an employee must be able to mentally track multiple projects and tasking as well

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. 
  • One year of experience working in education, academic counseling, or related field; to include experience working with adolescents and families. 
  • Two years of experience working with/supporting individuals from low-income populations in overcoming barriers and achieving goals and/or supporting hies demographic in a similar work environment. 
  • Ability to travel as well as supervise students on overnight trips 
  • Valid Driver’s License and ability to be insured by the College’s insurance provider. 
*In lieu of the required degree, candidates with equivalent professional experience, industry certifications, or a combination of education and relevant work experience may be considered. 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a closely related field of study. 
  • Two years of experience working with grant projects, public school personnel, and providing college readiness and/or preparedness support. 
  • Two years of experience with program development, curriculum development, and utilizing effective management and organization skills.
