Transportation and Bridges

The Opportunity
Our client, a highly respected and well-established multidisciplinary engineering consulting firm, is seeking an experienced Structural Engineering Practice Leader to help lead and grow its transportation structures practice in Pennsylvania.
This is a high-impact leadership opportunity for a senior bridge engineer who wants more than another project management position. The selected individual will have the opportunity to lead major structural pursuits and assignments, strengthen key client relationships, mentor and grow a talented engineering team, and help shape the future of the firm’s structures practice throughout southeastern Pennsylvania.
The position will be based from the firm’s King of Prussia, Philadelphia or Allentown office, with a primary focus on projects throughout the five-county Philadelphia region. The individual will also have the opportunity to participate in major transportation and infrastructure assignments across Pennsylvania and throughout the firm’s broader geographic footprint.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong combination of technical credibility, project delivery experience, business development ability and people leadership. Experience working with PennDOT is required, while established relationships and project experience with PennDOT District 6-0, SEPTA and other regional transportation agencies would be especially valuable.
What You Will Do

Lead and continue building the firm’s structural engineering practice throughout southeastern Pennsylvania

Direct the planning, design and delivery of bridge and transportation structure assignments

Serve as Project Manager, Program Manager and Contract Manager on complex structural projects

Lead projects from conceptual engineering and alternatives analysis through final design, contract document preparation and construction administration

Provide senior-level technical leadership involving bridge design, rehabilitation, replacement and field operations

Participate actively in business development, client relationship management, proposal development and project pursuits

Identify new opportunities and help secure future structural engineering workload

Serve as a trusted liaison between the firm, its clients, agency representatives, subconsultants and project stakeholders

Lead internal and client meetings, technical presentations and project reviews

Direct the work of engineers, designers and subconsultants

Provide QA/QC review for technical accuracy, completeness and constructability

Develop practical and creative solutions to challenging structural and transportation problems

Recruit, train, mentor and develop junior and mid-level structural engineers

Help establish staffing plans, technical standards and long-term growth strategies for the regional structures practice

Collaborate with roadway, transportation, environmental, geotechnical, construction management and other technical disciplines
What We Are Looking For
-
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a closely related discipline

Pennsylvania Professional Engineer license
-
Fifteen or more years of progressive bridge design and structural engineering experience
-
Demonstrated experience delivering projects for PennDOT
-
Strong knowledge of bridge design, rehabilitation, replacement and construction-phase services

Experience managing structural projects, contracts, budgets, schedules and multidisciplinary teams
-
Proven ability to communicate effectively with clients, agency representatives and technical staff

Experience preparing proposals, participating in interviews and supporting business development efforts
-
Strong technical judgment, initiative and problem-solving ability

A leadership style built around accountability, collaboration, mentoring and client service
Preferred Experience

Master’s degree in Structural Engineering

Experience with PennDOT District 6-0

Experience with SEPTA, the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission or other regional transportation agencies

Established relationships within the southeastern Pennsylvania transportation market

Experience leading bridge and structures pursuits

Experience building or expanding a regional structural engineering team

Background involving alternative delivery, design-build or complex multidisciplinary transportation programs
