Corrections Counselor I

The Chatham County Detention Center has an opening for Corrections Counselor I. If you have a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Criminal Justice, or a related field, plus one (1) year of counseling experience, consider applying.

• Counsel inmates and document records according to the Standard Operating Procedures of the Chatham County Detention Center. 
• Perform work that requires a great degree of confidentiality. 
• Respond to detainee requests and staff referrals.
• Maintain daily activity logs.
• Present accurate and reliable monthly reports. 
• Work with the unique problems of an inmate population to provide follow-up services and support, including addiction and recovery issues, multi-cultural awareness, and multi-group theories. 
• Arrange for detainees to have contact with Parole, Probation, DFCS, Court Administrator, and other government agencies. 
• Use your interpersonal skills to interact with difficult clients.
• May encounter crises such as threats of suicide, homicide, and physical harm. 
• Use your customer service skills as you answer inquiries from the public by phone and in person.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work, Criminal Justice, or a related field; and 
• At least one (1) year of counseling experience; or 
• Any equivalent combination of training and experience.
