Structural Steel Estimator – Construction

Qualifications & Experience:

-5+ years of experience in structural steel estimating, miscellaneous metals, fabrication, or a related construction environment.

-Ability to read and interpret structural drawings and construction documents.

-Understanding of structural steel fabrication and installation processes.

-Strong attention to detail with good mathematical and analytical skills.

-Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.

-Strong communication and teamwork skills.

-Willingness to learn and grow within a fast-paced construction environment.

-Experience working with structural steel fabricators, erectors, or specialty contractors.

-Experience with retrofit, renovation, or commercial construction projects.

-Familiarity with estimating software and digital take-off tools

-Diploma or degree in Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or a related field.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Estimating Manager/Leadership Team, this role will support the preparation of accurate and competitive estimates for structural steel, miscellaneous metals, fabrication, and installation projects.

The successful candidate will review drawings and specifications, complete material and labour take-offs, assist with supplier and subcontractor pricing, and prepare estimates and proposals for a variety of construction projects.

This position is ideal for someone with experience in structural steel, miscellaneous metals, fabrication, or construction estimating who is looking to continue developing their technical skills while contributing to successful project pursuits.

Key Responsibilities:

-Review architectural, structural, and engineering drawings, specifications, and tender documents.

-Prepare quantity take-offs for structural steel and miscellaneous metals projects.

-Assist with estimating material, labour, equipment, fabrication, and installation costs.

-Obtain pricing from suppliers, subcontractors, and vendors.

-Support the preparation of bids, quotations, and proposal submissions.

-Identify scope requirements, potential risks, and project considerations.

-Attend site visits and pre-bid meetings as required.

-Work closely with Project Managers, Fabrication Teams, and Operations to ensure accurate project handoffs.

-Maintain organized estimating files and documentation.

-Stay current with construction pricing, materials, and industry practices.
