GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Acts as lead worker and performs a variety of specialized tasks related to custodial care of county buildings.
 
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Works under the general supervision of a custodial supervisor who assigns and reviews work performed.
 
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Supervision of other employees is not a responsibility of positions in this class.  However, may exercise lead direction over other custodial personnel and temporary employees and covers in the absence of the supervisor.

Custodial 2 Lead Responsibilities:

  1. Work closely with managers, supervisors, and staff from other departments, as needed. 
  2. May work closely with outside vendors to ensure that warranty work is scheduled and completed. 
  3. Meet with vendors when the Supervisor is unavailable.
  4. Establishes and maintains professional and effective working relationships with customers, co-workers, supervisors, and other departments and agencies.
  5. Communicate effectively and keep everyone up to date on the status of projects, work orders for that campus/work site, and issues/concerns.  
  6. Organizes, plans, and prioritizes workload and projects.   
  7. Act in the capacity of the supervisor when they are not available.
  8. Provide daily direction and guidance to Custodial 1 employees at assigned campus/worksite, and other campuses as needed.  
  9. Train employees, assign and review work; prioritize work assignments; review timesheets; arrange for work coverage during absences; and provide backup support to staff as needed.
  10. Assist in coordinating training for custodial employees on how to order parts and tools, use of the WOs system, including recording of time, parts, supplies, and materials to WOs.
  11. Complete, track, and reviews work orders (WOs)and preventative maintenance (PMs) tasks weekly and ensures scheduled WOs are completed within department priority-level time standards.
  1. Order and put away supplies.
  2. Drives to and from campuses to complete work throughout Marion County.
  1. Attend Lead Meetings and communicate with the Supervisor on issues that need to be addressed during these meetings.
  2. Ensure all policies and procedures are followed according to OSHA regulations and County procedures.
Daily Operations:
  1. Use a variety of equipment to scrub, buff, strip hard floors (scrubber, buffer, burnisher, wet vac.)
  2. Uses a variety of equipment to thoroughly remove dirt from carpet (extractors) 
  3. Fills in for Custodial 1 employees to cover for scheduled and unscheduled leave.
  4. Uses independent judgment and decision making.
  5. Knowledgeable of and able to perform required tasks of all custodial routes.
  1. Always carry a cell phone.
  1. Operate and cleans various equipment.
  2. Prepare chemicals per instructions using basic math skills to compute dilution ratios.
  3. Clean and disinfect toilets, urinals, sinks, walls, and partitions.
  4. Dispose of trash and recycling in proper dumpsters.
  5. Appropriately handle and dispose of hazardous waste.
Other Duties:
  1. Understand and carry out written and verbal instructions.
  2. Comply with department and county policies, procedures, and regulations.
  3. Use ladders and stairs.
  4. Maintain regular, punctual attendance, and needed CJIS clearance. 
  5. Possess and maintains a current ODL and an acceptable driving record.
  6. Attend various meetings and complete the required training.
  7. Other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

  1. Graduation from high school, or equivalent, AND 
  2. Two years experience in custodial work; OR
  3. Any satisfactory combination of work, education, training, or experience relevant to the position, as determined by Marion County.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • The finalist for this position will be required to pass a criminal history background check, including finger printing; however, conviction of a crime may not necessarily disqualify an individual for this position.
  • Must possess a current driver's license in the applicant's state of residence and an acceptable driving history. Marion County will obtain a copy of the driving record for all qualified applicants from Driver and Motor Vehicle Services and review the driving record according to the Marion County policy and procedure for Driving on County Business.   • This assignment is represented by a union.
  • This is a full-time position, which is eligible for overtime.
  • Work Schedule:  Monday through Friday, 4:30 p.m. - 1:00 a.m., with flexibility depending upon the needs of the department and program.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of cleaning methods and procedures, and cleaning materials such as soaps, powders, waxes and polishes; the care and maintenance of cleaning equipment, procedures and tools; the care of hard surface floors and carpets.  Knowledge of the proper handling and disposal of hazardous waste.

Skills and abilities to operate motor-driven cleaning equipment, work independently, understand and follow simple oral and written instructions; perform manual tasks for extended periods; establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with other employees, tenants, the public, and other agencies; work evenings; operate a motor vehicle; provide training to others; give and prioritize work assignments.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Operates a motor vehicle; stands, bends; sits, stoops, moves about the work area, bending forward; reaches overhead; lifts 50 lbs.; carries items weighing up to 50 lbs.;  pushes and pulls items weighing up to 75 lbs.; operates a keyboard; rapid-mental/hand-eye coordination; speaks in a clear and audible voice; reads 12 point font; distinguish colors/shades; twisting 90 degrees radius; walking; turning neck 180 degrees radius; smelling; repetitive motion of hands, feet, and wrists; handling and grasping; ability to hear at a normal speech level; independent judgement; customer service; possible risk of exposure to blood/body fluids, dust, heat, cold, uneven areas; works in normal office environment.
