Are you a results-driven sales professional with a passion for media? WHUR-FM is seeking an Account Executive to drive revenue and foster local business growth. In this role, you will act as a strategic marketing partner for our clients, leveraging the legendary WHUR brand and the Howard University Radio Network to deliver high-impact advertising and digital solutions.

SUPERVISORY ACCOUNTABILITY:     

None.

NATURE AND SCOPE:     

The ability to maintain account list of advertisers for WHUR-FM and the Howard University Radio Network. Managing client needs, problem solving client objectives and being a marketing resource for various accounts of the WHUR-FM brands.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:                     

  • Revenue Generation: Achieve and exceed monthly, quarterly, and annual sales goals by prospecting new local business and servicing existing accounts.
  • Strategic Presentations: Develop and deliver at least three custom, creative written presentations per week that solve client marketing objectives.
  • Pipeline Management: Maintain a consistent list of 7–9 high-priority target accounts while managing a robust active account list.
  • Digital Integration: Present and sell comprehensive digital solutions alongside traditional broadcast radio assets.
  • Financial Accountability: Monitor and manage account collections, ensuring past-due balances (90+ days) remain under 4%.
  • Data Analysis: Utilize Nielsen Rating Services and other industry statistics to build data-backed narratives for prospective advertisers.
  • Collaboration: Participate in sales meetings, in-field training, and University-wide initiatives to maintain harmonious working relationships.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

CORE COMPETENCIES:      

     

  • Demonstrated success in driving revenue through the sale of integrated digital solutions and display advertising.

  • Ability to synthesize broadcast trends and digital innovations into comprehensive multi-platform marketing strategies.

  • Competence in both oral and written English.

  • Ability to promote, establish and maintain harmonious and effective work relations with students, faculty, staff, University officials and the general public.

  • A customer-driven mindset with the ability to navigate the advertising agency landscape and local business community.

  • Ability to contact advertising community and advertising agencies to sell advertising time and generate revenue the radio network.

  • Ability to translate budget requirements into actionable monthly and annual sales plans.

  • Ability to prepare sales proposals/contracts.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:       

Associate's degree in business, marketing or related area and three years media sales experience or any equivalent combination of five years education and experience.

Compliance Salary Range Disclosure

Expected Pay Range: $40,000 - $45,000 base, plus commission based on sales performance.
