Description

We are seeking a motivated and professional Assessor in Health and Social Care to join our expanding department at Sandwell College. This is a fixed term opportunityfor the academic year.

Based across our Sandwell College campus in West Bromwich and our new, state-of-the-art facility, Sandwell College @ The Learning Campus (situated on the Midlands Met University Hospital site), this is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Health and Social Care practitioner or assessor who is passionate about supporting learners within the further education sector. You will play a key role in assessing learners both in external workplace placements and on campus as part of their broader qualifications including T-Levels and Technical Occupational Qualifications (TOQs). Your work will ensure high standards of training, assessment, and professional development while supporting learners towards successful achievement. 

Working closely with the Head of Section and wider curriculum team, you will contribute to the continued development of our technical provision, ensuring learners receive an excellent experience that supports achievement, progression, and positive outcomes. 


Key Responsibilities

  • Support a caseload of learners meeting with them on a regular basis to support and evidence their learning
  • Deliver a range of effective assessment techniques in the workplace and as part of the qualification, leading to timely achievements
  • Assess whether learner evidence meets the required standards for the qualification and unit criteria
  • Deliver targeted sessions to support learners with work readiness as part of their employer placements, rather than core curriculum delivery
  • Manage the administration of pre-placement checks for learners, including facilitating and monitoring student Enhanced DBS applications to ensure placement compliance
  • Attend regular meetings across our campus bases to collaborate with the wider Health and Social Care team and ensure standardisation
  • Continue your own professional development to retain competency in assessing modern Health and Social Care qualifications (including T-Levels/TOQs)
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of Health and Social Care qualification frameworks and assessment standards
  • Maintain accurate academic and administrative records in line with Quality Assurance procedures
  • Liaise effectively with employers, learners, colleagues, and external stakeholders to support learner progress


Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • A relevant Health and Social Care qualification (minimum Level 3)
  • A recognised assessor qualification such CAVA, ACWE or equivalent (A1, D32/33)
  • A full UK driving licence with access to a vehicle, and a willingness to travel to external clinical and care placements
  • Experience assessing and training within the Health and Social Care sector
  • Experience managing caseloads of learners/candidates
