Utilities Maintenance Technician
Location: Covington, TN
Pay Range: $34.00 Per Hour – Paid Bi-Weekly
Bonus eligible - $2.00 shift night differential – 12 hr night shift 2/2/3
The role:
Provides preventive maintenance services and repair of all plant electrical and mechanical systems, plumbing equipment, and facilities to ensure proper upkeep and maintenance. Performs duties and responsibilities for the business unit consistent with company goals and business unit Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to include safety, quality, productivity, and customer service.
The Magnum Ice Cream Covington factory is a 24/7 high paced dynamic work environment. We achieve goals through collaborative cross functional teams in the safe and quality delivery of finished goods across the shift they are leading. Making brands such as Klondike, Popsicle, Breyers, and Good Humor ice cream.
What you'll be responsible for:
- Maintains heating, air conditioning, ventilation and other building operations and repairs malfunctions as needed to ensure required environmental control.
- Performs minor building repairs such as electrical, plumbing, painting, carpentry, and other related trades to meet facility needs.
- Conducts daily inspections of building mechanical equipment for proper operation.
- Takes regular readings from boilers, chillers, and/or air compressors and makes corrections as needed.
- Installs and repairs electrical apparatus such as transformers and wiring.
- Performs tests on water to identify chemical levels and hardness, and makes appropriate adjustments.
- Monitors emission gas status and makes appropriate adjustments as needed.
- Analyzes wastewater to identify problems using the TOC analyzer before releasing it to the local treatment center.
- Responds to emergencies involving water damage, electrical failure, and other facility problems.
- Repairs and maintains dock doors and other physical structures, equipment, or systems as needed.
- Unclogs toilets and other plumbing fixtures and may repair leaky or broken main water or sewer lines.
- Performs preventive maintenance on facilities equipment including repairs, replacing filters, changing light bulbs, flushing chillers, washing coils, flushing condensers, repairing fire extinguishers, testing fire alarms, replacing backflow preventers, installing weather stripping, and/or cleaning equipment.
- Maintains maintenance logs and other required documentation on equipment repairs.
- Recommends continuous improvement ideas to the Utilities Manager and provides information related to technical issues and equipment problems.
- Properly disposes of universal waste, hazardous waste, and recycles according to procedure.
- Maintains an organized, clean, and safe work area.
- Observes all safety and company rules and regulations in the performance of duties.
We're looking for someone who
- High School Diploma or general education degree (GED) is required.
- Successfully complete the Unilever Maintenance Test.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of plant personnel.
- A minimum of one (1) year of technical school training in general maintenance trades such as plumbing, HVAC, mechanical, or electrical trades, or completion of an approved apprentice program.
- Related experience and/or advanced training, or any equivalent combination of education and experience, may be substituted.
- Perform basic math including fractions, decimals, percentages, and unit conversions
- Inspect parts for correct size, shape, and alignment
- Follow detailed instructions and solve routine problems
- Use hand tools and equipment with precision and coordination
- Stand, walk, lift, and move materials regularly
- Hear and identify machine sounds; distinguish colors for wiring and components
