JOB SUMMARY:Within the context of a client and family centred care model, and in accordance with the established vision and values of the organization, works as a member of an integrated team and plays a significant role in ensuring that the clerical requirements within a fast paced, high volume operating room environment are met. Applies critical thinking and uses current knowledge of procedure protocols and computerized systems to assign emergency surgeries to slate for review by nursing staff and/or physicians and adjust operating room slate. Duties include gathering information, entering data onto computerized systems, communicating approved changes to slates, generating reports for distribution regarding pick list for equipment and supplies, maintaining daily blood supplies to ensure availability for surgery, providing receptionist functions, receiving and admitting patients, compiling, maintaining and distributing designated operating room usage statistical information, and typing technical and non-technical material using a variety of computerized applications such as wordprocessing and spreadsheet software. Also acts to support the delivery of patient care and to ensure patients and/or their family have a positive experience with the designated services. QUALIFICATIONS:Education & Experience Grade 12, three years' recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.Knowledge & AbilitiesAbility to keyboard at 45 w.p.m.Knowledge of medical terminology.Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.Ability to deal with others effectively.Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.Ability to organize work.Ability to operate related equipment.The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes.
