Position summary

Build the boot upper. Run one or more stitching room stations to specification, at rate, right the first time.


Essential functions

  • Operate your assigned station: skiving, marking, cementing, embossing, backstay, eyelet setting, box toe, barring, closing or top stitching.
  • Set thread, needle and tension for the material and the style. Check against the sample before you run the lot.
  • Match parts by size and lot. Verify the count against the ticket.
  • Inspect your own work. Pull and flag any upper with a skipped stitch, broken thread, misaligned seam or off-spec eyelet.
  • Cross-train onto a second and third station and certify at Level 2 or above.
  • Keep the machine, the bobbin area and your station clean. Report mechanical problems immediately.

Requirements

Minimum qualifications

  • No prior experience required at grade P1. We train you.
  • Hand-eye coordination and consistent attention across a full shift.
  • Willingness to cross-train. This is the department where cross-training moves your pay the fastest.

Preferred qualifications

  • Prior industrial sewing experience, in footwear, apparel or upholstery.
  • Ability to run more than one machine type. Certified capability on multiple stations is what moves a fitter from P1 to P3.

Physical requirements and work environment

This position works on the production floor. Standing and walking for most of the shift. Occasional lifting up to 30 pounds. Repetitive use of hands. Hearing and eye protection required in designated areas. Steel-toe footwear required on the production floor. Reasonable accommodation is available to qualified individuals with disabilities.


How performance is measured

Pairs per shift against the standard for your station. First-pass quality. The number of stations you are certified on at Level 2 or above.
