Position Summary
Reporting to the Coordinator, Cycling & Events, this part-time position uses comprehensive knowledge of cycling specific technical skills to provide coaching to participants with detailed attention to specific cycling attributes, such as biomechanical, physiological and mental. While serving as a positive role model, the Track Cycling Facilitator is responsible for the planning and delivery of instructional track cycling programs that are safe, fun and appropriate for the targeted age group and mission of the session or program. Sessions to be monitored may include private drop-in sessions and private track rentals.

Major Job Responsibilities

Facilitate and monitor group track cycling activities using a comprehensive understanding of the technical and physical requirements of cycle track riding in a group environment including:

  • Assess skill level of participants when required to ensure safety on the track

  • Ensure participants are following proper track cycling etiquette during sessions; provide guidance or instruction to participants as appropriate

  • Politely enforce the established Mattamy National Cycling Centre rules and guidelines governing the safety and conduct of participants

  • Evaluate situations for potential safety risks and proactively take action to address such risks to ensure the safety and well-being of all program participants

  • Establish positive relationships, clear communication channels, and work cooperatively with all staff and participants

  • Deliver excellent customer service

  • Attend and participate in mandatory staff functions: training, meetings and allocated program times

  • Perform other duties as assigned in accordance with department objectives

Administrative tasks

  • Maintain a safe, clean facility; includes inspecting the riding surface before every session and communicating deficiencies to appropriate staff

  • Maintain effective communication with customer service and facility maintenance staff in the event of an emergency

  • Report all incidents, using the appropriate form(s) and forward to immediate supervisor for follow up

  • Submit all required forms and waivers ensuring accuracy and completeness of information

Education & Experience

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of Secondary Education

  • Two (2) years participating in the sport of cycling (any discipline)

  • Minimum 19 years of age

  • Mattamy National Cycling Centre (MNCC) Track Certification

  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level “C”

  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening

  • Well organized with the ability to coordinate and communicate with groups of people effectively

  • Ability to work well both independently and in a team environment

  • Strong communication and customer service skills

  • Discretion, tact and mature judgment is required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years participating in the sport of track cycling

  • Previous experience supervising program participants in a recreational environment an asset Experience in coaching individual cyclists, teams and clubs an asset

  • NCCP - Community Cycling Coach – “Trained”

  • Experience working with persons with disabilities an asset
