The primary role of the Global Director, NPI will provide leadership to a diverse team of engineers and provide support in the design, documentation, analysis, and coordination of release for products being transferred from design to production. The Director, NPI will contribute to the success of projects as well as the team. In this role, the Director, NPI will balance the work within the team, coach the team through technical challenges, and act as a role model in the organization. The Director, NPI will be expected to provide technical input to the leadership team to support business decisions.
This leader, with their team develops and implements operations requirements for design transfer across all product portfolios and collaborates with development, manufacturing and technical support teams to assure that all aspects of design for quality and manufacturability (DQM) are utilized for robust design development, transfer and ultimately scale up. Assures appropriate test method validations and product specifications are developed and implemented. Individual is also responsible for managing new part number creation and appropriate work instruction development. Will work cross functionally to ensure repeatability and reproducibility of the manufactured products within product and process capabilities and meeting of desired specifications.
Provides leadership of design transfer activities of products also engages in technology transfer activities involving product end of life or transfer to other Spellman High Voltage Electronics manufacturing sites.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Establishes overall team direction and goals, and sets direction of resources toward completion of goals, in conjunction with Senior Leadership in both Development and Operations. Promotes an open, collaborative environment focused on teamwork
- Establishes and maintains design transfer project milestones and timelines
- Supports robust design specification development and validation activities during design transfer, working closely with counterparts in the development team.
- Oversight for all NPI deliverables to the customer and expected team output
- Communication with all members of the NPI team to monitor project status, scope changes, and KPIs
- Work with the Product Development teams to ensure that all new products have been put through the adequate testing and best practices have been used
- Work collaboratively with peers and other cross-functional team members including define sub-system design requirement specifications and design architectures
- Manage and collaborate across multi-technical disciplines and cross-functional teams
- Plan, manage, and delegate project resource requirements, schedules, and task activities.
- Resolve problems using solutions that involve new techniques, technologies, or concepts.
- Effective application of engineering excellence processes and techniques (DFMEA, PFMEA, DOE, DVP&R, boundary diagrams, DFM/A, Technical Design Reviews, fault tree and risk assessment, SCRUM, etc.)
- Lead a team of NPI Manufacturing Engineers, in collaboration with other organizations, to support production of complex products with responsibilities including but not limited to:
- Establish group and individual objectives, priorities, and metrics
- Ensure production of products meets expected output
- Ensure quality requirements are fulfilled and maintained
- Provide technical support for failure analysis and root cause investigation of product failures.
- Analyze manufacturing lines from a risk perspective (pFMEA) to incorporate and validate critical tests used in manufacturing.
- Assume responsibility for the validation of manufacturing equipment and processes leveraging standard qualification approaches (IQ/OQ/PQ/DQ/PPQ).
- Provide production line support for day-to-day engineering issues on production and NPI lines.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement projects with respect to first pass yield, cycle time reduction, product reliability, capacity enhancements, and cost reduction.
- Liaise between project management, engineering, and manufacturing functions to ensure project goals are on track
- Adherence to applicable QMS policies and procedures
- Ensure the team sets and meets reasonable deliverable expectations Review and approve engineering changes
- Facilitate problem-solving efforts and continually improve processes
- Understand, lead, and coach in DFX concepts, pFMEA, problem-solving, and transfer efforts
- Lead in the decision-making process for production planning and layout
- Evaluate and estimate the required and proposed engineering tasks (headcount or hours) Understand the product funnel and needs for NPI resources during the early phases of development
- Other duties as assigned by management
REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum of 15 years of demonstrated experience in people management and leadership role
- Minimum of 10 years experience in electronics manufacturing and knowledge of Design Control guidelines
- Minimum of 10 years leading/managing New Product Introduction Teams; including hiring, employee development, managing subordinate managers, project planning, and coordination in a matrixed organization
- Strong Conflict resolution and negotiation skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent time management, planning, organization and problem solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead, mentor and coach team members
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with all levels of the organization as well as directly with key customer contacts
- Must be very good with materials, mechanical parts and electronic components logistics, planning, well organized and resourceful;
- Must be able to multitask in an environment requirement a high level of detail and accuracy, work independently with guidance and take ownership of all assigned tasks;
- Capable of presenting information to management team and influencing key stakeholders;
- Ability to relentlessly track and follow-up on open issues and action items;
- Prior responsibility for validation of processes, equipment, and products.
- Experience in an ISO 13485, ISO 9001, or medical device manufacturing environment preferred.
- A clear understanding of BOM, BOM structure, ECO process, and materials/product setup
Our good faith estimate of the salary range for this role is $155,000 - $170,000. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, experience, and other factors. In addition to base pay, we offer a full benefits package.
This position requires on-site presence at Spellman High Voltage headquarters in Hauppauge, NY.
