Overview

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is seeking a BD/Marketing Specialist to support external marketing, public relations, corporate storytelling, content development, awards, events, and strategic communications initiatives that strengthen the company’s visibility and support Business Unit growth priorities. This early-career role will help plan, develop, and execute marketing and communications projects that promote AMERICAN SYSTEMS’ mission, capabilities, people, culture, customer impact, and employee-owned identity. The successful candidate will work closely with Marketing and Communications, Business Development, Business Units, technical subject-matter experts, executive leaders, and external vendors to create clear, compelling, and customer-relevant communications. The ideal candidate is an organized, detail-oriented writer and project coordinator who can learn complex technical subject matter quickly; turn it into engaging content; manage multiple projects and deadlines; and support high-quality external marketing initiatives in a fast-paced federal contracting environment.

Responsibilities

External Marketing and Corporate Storytelling

  • Support integrated external marketing and communications initiatives aligned with company strategy, Business Unit priorities, target markets, and growth objectives.
  • Research, draft, edit, proofread, and coordinate content for external and internal communications.
  • Develop and maintain marketing collateral, including capability statements, fact sheets, brochures, solution overviews, presentations, executive biographies, project summaries, customer-impact stories, event materials, and promotional products.
  • Partner with technical subject-matter experts, program leaders, and Business Unit stakeholders to identify and communicate meaningful customer outcomes, technical capabilities, innovations, employee-owner stories, and differentiators.
  • Translate complex technical, operational, and mission-focused information into concise, accurate, and engaging content for customers, industry audiences, employees, recruits, partners, and other stakeholders.
  • Assist with development of content for the company website, digital campaigns, company announcements, executive communications, thought-leadership materials, news releases, social media, and other corporate channels.
  • Support the maintenance of a consistent company voice, visual identity, message discipline, and brand standards across assigned materials.
  • Maintain organized content libraries, approved boilerplate, brand assets, templates, photographs, videos, project summaries, executive biographies, and other reusable communications materials.

Public Relations and External Visibility

  • Support public-relations and media-relations activities, including drafting news releases, media pitches, background materials, executive talking points, company profiles, and award announcements.
  • Monitor industry news, competitor activity, customer milestones, contract awards, company initiatives, and relevant market developments for external communications opportunities.
  • Assist with identifying and developing story ideas that increase awareness of AMERICAN SYSTEMS’ capabilities, employee-owner culture, community impact, technical expertise, and mission support.
  • Support coordination with external public-relations, media, creative, web, and other communications vendors.
  • Help prepare leaders and subject-matter experts for interviews, speaking engagements, panels, award events, customer meetings, and other external-facing opportunities.
  • Track and report media coverage, press-release distribution, content placement, audience engagement, and other public-relations performance measures.

Awards, Recognition, and Thought Leadership

  • Coordinate development of corporate, industry, workplace, customer, executive, and employee recognition submissions.
  • Research award programs, ranking opportunities, certifications, and recognition platforms that align with company priorities.
  • Gather content, metrics, testimonials, project information, and stakeholder input needed to develop accurate, compelling nomination packages.
  • Draft, edit, format, and manage review cycles for award nominations, corporate rankings, executive biographies, award announcements, and related promotional content.
  • Support development of thought-leadership content, including articles, bylined pieces, executive posts, presentations, speaking abstracts, panel submissions, and industry-award content.
  • Maintain an annual awards and recognition calendar, including deadlines, submission requirements, status, outcomes, and promotional follow-up opportunities.

Events, Sponsorships, and Strategic Engagement

  • Support planning, coordination, and execution of conferences, trade shows, sponsorships, customer events, webinars, executive forums, industry association activities, and other external-marketing initiatives.
  • Assist with event strategy, project plans, timelines, budgets, registration, vendor coordination, sponsorship deliverables, booth and exhibit logistics, promotional products, signage, shipping, and event-day execution.
  • Create event communications, including invitations, attendee materials, presentation support, briefing books, social-media content, follow-up emails, and post-event summaries.
  • Work with internal stakeholders and external vendors to ensure events align with company priorities, brand standards, customer audiences, and visibility goals.
  • Track event participation, expenses, stakeholder feedback, customer and partner interactions, media opportunities, content opportunities, and post-event follow-up actions.
  • Support assessment of event and sponsorship effectiveness and recommend adjustments to improve future participation and investment.

Digital Content and Marketing Operations

  • Assist with content development, maintenance, and quality assurance for the AMERICAN SYSTEMS website, landing pages, newsletters, email campaigns, social media, and digital marketing materials.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors on website content, graphic design, print production, digital assets, video, photography, and other creative deliverables.
  • Support editorial calendars, content schedules, project workbacks, review cycles, approval workflows, and publishing coordination.
  • Assist with monitoring and reporting website traffic, social-media performance, email engagement, content usage, event activity, media coverage, and campaign outcomes.
  • Prepare reports, dashboards, summaries, and recommendations to improve content performance, external visibility, stakeholder engagement, and marketing effectiveness.
  • Maintain marketing project trackers, budget documentation, vendor estimates, invoices, files, and other records in accordance with company processes.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, English, business, graphic design, or a related field.
  • 0–2 years of relevant experience in marketing, communications, public relations, journalism, content development, event coordination, digital marketing, or a related discipline.
  • Strong writing, editing, proofreading, research, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to research unfamiliar topics and develop accurate, concise, and audience-appropriate content.
  • Strong organizational and project-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, review cycles, and stakeholder inputs.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
  • Ability to create polished presentations, documents, marketing materials, and communications products with close attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively with technical professionals, business leaders, cross-functional teams, and external vendors.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and work under general supervision.
  • U.S. citizenship or ability to meet applicable customer and contract requirements.
