For over two decades, we’ve been at the forefront of the global energy transition, pioneering solutions that empower critical industries to thrive in a rapidly digitizing, energy-intensive world. From revolutionizing power for AI-driven data centers to ensuring resilience for hospitals, electric grids, manufacturing facilities, and utilities, our solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) and solid oxide electrolyzer (SOEC) technologies are redefining what’s possible by delivering energy abundance for all. With more than 30,000 fuel cell modules deployed worldwide, we are the trusted partner for Fortune 100 companies and innovators alike. Our cutting-edge solutions enable unparalleled “time-to-power” capabilities, reliability, and sustainability, ensuring our customers remain ahead in a world where soaring energy demand and intensifying energy scarcity are rapidly becoming the new norm.

At Bloom, we thrive on collaboration, bold thinking, and relentless innovation. We believe that, together, we can create a brighter, more sustainable future while tackling the most pressing challenges of the 21st century.

We are looking for an Advanced Manufacturing Thermal Engineer to join our team in one of today’s most exciting technologies.  This role will report to Director, Equipment Engineering - Automation and based in Fremont, CA.  This is a fully on-site, in office role 5 days a week.

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Engineer to support the design, development, and deployment of proprietary furnaces and thermal processes that are critical to our company’s success. This role requires a strong understanding of thermal process fundamentals and hands-on experience with high-temperature furnace systems—particularly sintering under controlled thermal, mechanical, and environmental conditions—and their integration into high-volume manufacturing environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the development and launch of proprietary thermal processing equipment.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define process and system specifications.
  • Drive Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT).
  • Lead process design efforts to enable efficient equipment development and capacity scaling.
  • Oversee equipment build and develop test procedures aligned with relevant codes, standards, and industry best practices.
  • Ensure process capability and stability throughout development and implementation phases.
  • Coordinate with remote engineering teams and external suppliers.
  • Manage project timelines, resources, and reporting.
  • Partner with facilities and maintenance teams to install and support equipment in production environments.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or related fields (e.g., ceramics, sintering, thermal processes).
  • 4-8 years of experience in thermal equipment/process development and high-volume manufacturing integration.
  • Good understanding of FEA, and CFD result analysis and interpretation.
  • Proven track record in leading equipment development and process stabilization projects.
  • Experience working with suppliers and remote engineering teams.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel up to 20%.
  • Familiarity with process engineering metrics (e.g., Cp, CpK).
  • Experience in high-volume semiconductor, ceramics, solar, or battery manufacturing is a plus.
  • Experience with high temperature furnaces (+900C) is a plus
