THE OPPORTUNITY
We have an exciting opportunity for a hands-on automotive service leader to join Canadian Tire #636 in Sechelt, British Columbia as Service Manager. Reporting to the General Manager and serving as a member of the store’s Management Team, the Service Manager will take ownership of the Automotive Service Centre and be accountable for its day-to-day operations, customer experience, team leadership and financial performance.
The Service Manager will lead a four-bay Service Centre supported by an established team of two Red Seal Technicians, an experienced Lube Technician, an Apprentice and a Service Advisor. Working closely with the General Manager, the Service Manager will oversee shop productivity, workflow and department performance while identifying opportunities to strengthen customer relationships and grow the service business.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate is an experienced automotive service leader with the confidence, judgment and technical understanding to lead the Service Centre with a high degree of independence. Strong decision-making, the ability to provide credible direction to technicians and the ability to resolve customer concerns without unnecessary escalation are essential to success in the role.
An entrepreneurial mindset will be key, with the opportunity to take ownership of the department, identify opportunities to improve performance, grow revenue and strengthen customer relationships. A strong understanding of what drives a productive and profitable service operation, combined with sound business judgment and strong customer instincts, will support success in the role.
The role also calls for an approachable, hands-on leadership style that builds trust with employees and customers. Clear communication, accountability and a practical, solutions-focused approach will help the Service Manager lead the team and navigate daily challenges.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Team Development
- Lead and motivate Service Centre employees to support strong individual and team performance.
- Recruit, train, mentor and develop technicians, apprentices and service advisors.
- Establish clear expectations, provide ongoing feedback and hold team members accountable for performance.
- Provide technical guidance and support to technicians and service staff as required.
- Foster a collaborative, customer-focused work environment.
Service Centre Operations
- Manage the daily operations of the Automotive Service Centre to ensure efficient workflow, productivity and quality service.
- Schedule and assign work to technicians based on customer requirements, technician capabilities and available resources.
- Communicate clear repair instructions and monitor job progress to support timely completion of work.
- Coordinate parts and tire requirements to support scheduled repairs and customer needs.
- Coordinate manufacturer and extended warranty approvals prior to completing applicable repairs.
- Support the service advisor function as required based on scheduling and customer flow.
- Maintain a clean, organized and professional Service Centre.
Customer Experience
- Provide responsive, knowledgeable and professional service to Service Centre customers.
- Provide accurate labour and parts estimates and clearly communicate recommended maintenance and repair requirements.
- Respond to customer concerns and resolve complaints in a fair, timely and professional manner.
- Build strong customer relationships that promote trust, loyalty and repeat business.
- Support customers with automotive parts and service inquiries as required.
Business Growth & Financial Performance
- Achieve sales, productivity and customer service targets established for the department.
- Proactively grow the service business by attracting new customers and increasing department revenue.
- Develop and implement strategies and action plans to attract and retain customers.
- Monitor and control department expenses, budgets and KPIs, with a strong focus on gross profit growth.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve department processes and overall performance.
- Participate with the General Manager in planning department policies, priorities and objectives.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with company policies, health and safety requirements and applicable federal, provincial and local regulations.
- Ensure proper handling and disposal of hazardous waste in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Promote safe work practices and ensure accidents and incidents are reported and addressed appropriately.
- Maintain a safe, clean and organized working environment for employees and customers.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a Service Manager role or equivalent automotive service leadership position.
- Proven track record of increasing revenue, bringing in new business or growing a service department.
- Strong working knowledge of automotive service, vehicle systems, repairs, parts and accessories.
- Strong knowledge of medium-duty truck systems and repairs.
- Demonstrated experience leading, coaching and developing automotive technicians and service staff.
- Strong understanding of service department operations, including productivity, expenses, budgets, KPIs and gross profit.
- Strong customer service, communication, problem-solving and conflict-resolution skills.
- Proficiency in service management and work order software, auto parts ordering systems and Microsoft Office.
- Valid driver’s licence for the Province of British Columbia.
- Ability to work a schedule that supports the operational needs of the Service Centre.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including standing and walking for extended periods and frequent lifting, carrying and reaching.
- Experience in a Canadian Tire store and knowledge of COSTAR are considered assets.
