Description
- Preventative maintenance on all vehicle types including heavy equipment and fire rescue apparatus.
- Diagnosis and repair of all vehicle systems using laptop style scanners and other diagnostic equipment.
- Mobile repair and maintenance of vehicles in the field.
- Takes week-long on-call assignment to respond to after hours and weekend needs.
- Documentation of all work performed on laptop-based software.
- Performance of other related duties as assigned by supervisor or management
- Performs minor repairs and maintenance of wear and tear items with moderate supervision and instruction.
- Adheres to safety, security and fire prevention.
- Adheres to compliance of OSHA and EPA Standards.
- Adheres to compliance of Florida DOT regulations
- Performs other duties as assigned within qualifications.
- Ability to prioritize assignments, as it relates to customer needs and deadlines.
- Ability to utilize computers, databases and related software.
- Performs other reasonable related duties as assigned by immediate supervisor or other management personnel.
Emergency Response
County employees are required to report for work during a state of emergency and are subject to recall around the clock for emergency response operations which may include duties other than those specified in this job description. Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations
- Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License or must obtain within 30 days of establishing residency in Florida and be insurable by current insurance carrier, or valid Florida Identification Card is acceptable only for positions not required to drive a county vehicle.
- Must obtain within the 6-month probationary period at least 1 ASE certification in light, heavy or transit category. Additionally, within the probationary period must be able to obtain a valid Florida Class B Commercial Driver’s License with Air Brake endorsement, this license must be maintained throughout your employment with Hernando County Fleet Management and must also remain insurable by the current insurance carrier. Must have own tools to meet maintenance and repair requirements.
- This position may be subject to the Hepatitis B Vaccine and other vaccines as necessary.
Required Competencies
- Knowledge of modern repair operations
- Knowledge of standards of repair practices and operation of equipment and/or vehicles.
- Knowledge of EPA and DER regulations pertaining to the automotive repair industry.
- Ability to diagnose and repair normal problems with minimum supervision in accordance with acceptable standards of the industry.
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal orders to their completion with a minimum of supervision.
- Skill in the use of the tools of the trade and repair practices of the industry.
- Skill in the service and maintenance of a variety of light and heavy, diesel and gasoline powered, equipment.
- Places orders for required parts, materials and supplies, as required. Inputs information into computer databases or related software to maintain records such as repair, maintenance, equipment, and customer service history.
- Performs road tests and operational checks of vehicles and equipment to ensure quality of repairs and service.
