Sales Engineer — AI Factory Infrastructure
Hydra Host | 3–5 Years of Experience
Location: Remote
Travel: ~50%
About Hydra Host
Hydra Host is building the infrastructure that powers AI at scale. Through our GPU compute marketplace and infrastructure platforms, we help customers and partners deploy and operate high-performance AI Factories. Our work brings together compute, networking, storage, and datacenter infrastructure to support demanding AI workloads.
The Role
We’re looking for a Sales Engineer to support the end-to-end delivery of AI Factory clusters—from defining the Bill of Materials (BoM) through procurement, deployment, and ongoing operational support.
Working primarily with Sales and Procurement, you’ll translate customer requirements into practical infrastructure solutions, coordinate with OEM partners, and help internal teams deliver what customers need. You’ll serve as a technical point of contact throughout the customer lifecycle, connecting sales conversations with deployment execution and long-term operations.
This role is ideal for someone with 3–5 years of relevant experience who wants to deepen their expertise in AI infrastructure while building strong customer and vendor relationships. You’ll take ownership of day-to-day technical coordination, with support from senior engineering and operations teams on complex architecture and escalations.
What You’ll Do
Pre-Sales & Solution Alignment
- Support sales engagements with technical expertise during discovery, solution discussions, and proposal development.
- Translate customer requirements into actionable infrastructure specifications and deployment plans.
- Help customers understand proposed configurations, technical dependencies, and deployment considerations.
- Partner with engineering to validate solution feasibility and identify risks before commitments are finalized.
Bill of Materials & Procurement Support
- Develop and maintain BoMs covering compute, networking, storage, and supporting datacenter infrastructure.
- Work with Sales, Procurement, and OEM partners to confirm configurations, compatibility, pricing, availability, and lead times.
- Track technical changes and ensure proposals, purchasing requirements, and deployment documentation remain aligned.
- Help evaluate alternative components or configurations when availability, cost, or customer requirements change.
Customer Onboarding & Deployment
- Serve as a primary technical point of contact during customer onboarding, deployment, and post-deployment support.
- Coordinate customer requirements, deployment prerequisites, milestones, and technical dependencies.
- Act as a bridge between customers, sales, engineering, operations, procurement, and datacenter teams.
- Track open issues, communicate progress, and escalate blockers to the appropriate owners.
OEM & Vendor Coordination
- Maintain strong working relationships with OEM vendors across compute, networking, storage, and datacenter infrastructure.
- Track vendor commitments, delivery milestones, technical responses, and issue resolution.
- Hold vendors accountable for agreed deliverables and follow through on outstanding actions.
- Coordinate with Procurement and technical teams to resolve configuration discrepancies, delivery issues, and hardware support needs.
Operational Handoff & Ongoing Support
- Ensure smooth handoffs between deployment teams and long-term operations.
- Maintain accurate configuration records, deployment documentation, support contacts, and open-issue logs.
- Confirm that customer expectations, support responsibilities, and escalation paths are clearly communicated.
- Support post-deployment troubleshooting and coordinate engineering or vendor assistance when needed.
What We’re Looking For
- 3–5 years of experience in sales engineering, solutions engineering, technical account management, infrastructure deployment, or a related technical role.
- Experience working with server hardware, networking, storage, or datacenter infrastructure.
- Ability to translate customer needs into clear technical requirements and practical next steps.
- Experience creating or reviewing BoMs, hardware configurations, or technical proposals.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to different audiences.
- Strong organization and follow-through across multiple customers, vendors, and internal teams.
- Comfort working with Sales and Procurement while maintaining technical accuracy.
- Ability to travel ~50% of the time.
- Sound judgment about when to resolve an issue independently and when to involve senior technical specialists.
Technical Skills
- Server architecture and GPU compute fundamentals.
- Networking fundamentals, including Ethernet, switching, and connectivity requirements.
- Storage fundamentals and infrastructure compatibility.
- Linux familiarity and basic troubleshooting.
- Datacenter fundamentals, including rack space, power, cooling, and cabling.
- Hardware specifications, BoM development, and configuration documentation.
- Familiarity with virtualization, containers, and cloud infrastructure.
- Understanding of hardware support processes and OEM escalation procedures.
Experience with NVIDIA-based infrastructure, AI/HPC clusters, high-speed networking, or bare-metal environments is a plus.
