WORK ASSIGNMENT DETAILS

Waukesha County's Department of Health & Human Services is recruiting for an LTE Public Health Technician.

The candidate selected for this position will:

• Provide direct customer service in-person and by phone.
• Complete intake services for WIC families adhering to federal, state, and local policies and procedures.
• Perform age-appropriate height and weight measurements (on-the-job training provided).
• Conduct capillary testing for hemoglobin and lead screenings (on-the-job training provided).
• Perform data entry, data searches, reporting, and other functions using various computer systems.
• Maintain supplies necessary for screenings and other special programs.
• Perform set-up, take-down, and maintenance of clinic equipment as needed.
• Maintain current records and complete needed documentation related to health screenings.
• Evaluate, establish, and maintain files pertaining to the area of responsibility.
• Maintain records, logs of agency equipment, and perform calibration of scales and blood screening equipment.
• Assist in the management and inventory of equipment and supplies.

Essential Knowledge and Abilities

• Working knowledge of capillary screening procedures, the use of scales, and other measuring instruments.
• Working knowledge of the use of computers and computer keyboards.
• Knowledge of the practices and procedures of universal precautions.
• Ability to maintain a clean and sanitary workspace.
• Ability to accurately perform basic mathematical calculations.
• Ability to effectively interact, establish, and maintain working relationships with staff and with persons from diverse cultural, socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Ability to work effectively with adults and children of all ages.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds and to walk up and down stairs.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to keep records and make reports, including maintaining the confidentiality of patient information.
• Ability to work in an enclosed environment wearing personal protective equipment.

Minimum Training & Experience Requirements
1.    High School Diploma or GED.  
2.    a.   Completion of one approved post-secondary course in a health-related field.  
OR
b.   One year of experience working in a health-related field.  

Bilingual in English/Spanish is preferred.

In addition to the above, this position requires prior experience working with infants and/or young children in a group setting, or completion of post-secondary education courses related to childcare/child development.
