Description
Position summary
Maintain accurate bills of materials (BOMs) and item master records, and improve manufacturing processes for SMT, FATP, and related electronics assembly production line. The Process Engineer ensures that production uses the correct materials, revisions and work instructions. The role resolves manufacturing data issues and delivers validated improvements in quality, cycle time, material usage and production efficiency.Manufacturing scope
For MLB: Support solder paste printing, component placement, dispensing, reflow, solder paste inspection (SPI), automated optical inspection (AOI) and associated material flow. Work with production equipment including GKG printers, FUJI NXT and Universal placement machines, Holly inspection systems, Anda, Speedline and Asymtek dispensers, and reflow ovens. For FATP: Support automated assembly, production and testing line to ensure continuous production uptime. Work with AME/TE/FAE/IE/MFG x-functional team to help troubleshoot production issue, and perform continuous improvement activities as needed.
BOM maintenance
- Create and maintain manufacturing BOMs in the enterprise resource planning (ERP) system using approved engineering documents. Verify parent and component item numbers, quantities, units of measure, revisions, reference designators where applicable, and assembly relationships.
- Implement approved engineering change orders (ECOs) with the correct revision and effective date or lot. Coordinate material disposition, work in process and production cutover with Engineering, Planning, Quality and Supply Chain.
- Maintain approved component alternatives and substitutions through the required change process. Reconcile manufacturing BOMs with released engineering BOMs, drawings and assembly instructions.
- Investigate BOM discrepancies, missing components, incorrect quantities and material usage variances. Audit BOMs before new product release and periodically during production; document corrections and prevent repeat errors.
Item master maintenance
- Create and maintain assigned item master records. Verify item numbers, descriptions, revisions, units of measure, item types, lifecycle status and required manufacturing attributes against approved source information.
- Coordinate purchasing, planning, inventory and finance fields with the responsible functions, including make or buy status, lead times, order quantities, storage requirements and costing inputs.
- Apply item creation and revision rules, check for duplicate records, maintain approved manufacturer part references, and preserve traceability of changes and approvals.
- Resolve item data errors affecting purchasing, material planning, kitting, inventory transactions or production orders. Coordinate introduction, obsolescence and replacement of items without interrupting approved production configurations.
Process improvement and production support
- Analyze defects, first pass yield, scrap, rework, cycle time and throughput. Use production data and structured root cause analysis to prioritize improvements and verify results.
- Perform time studies, identify bottlenecks and improve line balance, changeovers, material flow and operator methods. Confirm improvements against an agreed baseline without compromising product quality or safety.
- Develop and maintain process flows, routings, standard times, work instructions and approved process settings. Keep documents and ERP manufacturing data aligned after changes.
- Plan controlled trials for printing, placement, dispensing, inspection and reflow changes. Define acceptance criteria with Quality, validate results, obtain required approvals and train operators before production implementation.
- Support new product introduction and production transfers. Review build readiness, resolve pilot build issues, and update process risk assessments and control plans with the responsible teams. Coordinate equipment-related corrective actions with Maintenance and Automation.
Qualifications and skills
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or a related field; equivalent relevant education and manufacturing experience may be considered.
- 0 -2 years of process engineering or manufacturing engineering experience in electronics assembly, including hands-on BOM and item master maintenance in an ERP system.
- Ability to interpret BOMs, engineering drawings and revisions; understand material planning and production routings; and apply disciplined change control and data accuracy checks.
- Working knowledge of SMT processes, Lean methods, root cause analysis and statistical process control. Proficiency in Excel and manufacturing data analysis, with clear technical writing and cross-functional communication skills.
Measures of success
| Responsibility | Example performance measures |
| BOM maintenance | BOM accuracy, on-time approved change implementation, and reduction in BOM-related build interruptions. |
| Item master maintenance | Record completeness, creation and update turnaround, and reduction in duplicate records and transaction errors. |
| Process improvement | First pass yield, scrap and rework, cycle time and throughput improvements, and sustained results against agreed baselines. |
Authority and working relationships
Maintain assigned manufacturing data and lead process improvement work within approved procedures. Engineering design changes, component substitutions, financial fields and major process changes require the responsible functional approvals. Work with Production, Quality, Design Engineering, Supply Chain, Planning, Finance, Maintenance and Automation. Provide technical guidance and operator training as assigned.Working conditions
Work in an SMT manufacturing environment with office and production floor responsibilities. Follow site safety and electrostatic discharge (ESD) controls. Support production launches, changeovers and urgent manufacturing issues, with overtime as needed. Other related duties may be assigned. No visa sponsorship is available for this role.
